I had this problem. There is a setting in the router so you can BRIDGE the connection. Contact you isp. You'll probably get India but they can tell you how to do it.

Both My Inspiron and linksys will not connect to my ISP. They say both are receiving an invalid IP address! I have used all trouble shooting techniques including trying to release and reset! Even went as...

Step 1: Plug the computer (ethernet wired) directly into the modem. Power cycle the modem and when all the light come on you should have internet. If not call your ISP to trouble shoot.

At this point we should be able to determine if it is a PPPoe connection (needs username and password to connect) or if it logs in automaticly.

Step 2: Plug the router back into the modem and the computer plugged wired (ethernet) to the router. Remove power from both the modem and the router. Plug the modem back in first, once all the lights are on plug in the router. Try to connect.

Step 3: Log in to the router via its IP address (normally 192.168.1.1), if no one has reset the user name password it should admin for both. If it has been reset, you will need to know what the user name and password are to continue.

Step 4: Under setup if in step 1 you found you needed PPPoe, then you need to set that under the setup tab. Make sure you use the user name and password provided to you by your ISP. If you dont need PPPoe then make sure this is set to obtain IP automaticly.

Step 5: save settings. Once the router restarts, try to connect again.

If these step do not work, let me know:

1. who is your ISP?
2. What modem do they use?
3. What is your IP address when plugged directly into the modem?
4. What is your IP address when plugged into the router?

I will be around for about 1 more hour, its 2PM central time now.

I have a d-link extreme g attached to a cable modem; the d-link is set for wirless. I can pick up the d-link on my ipod and laptop, however it only provides local access; no internet. I've tried everything...

I'm sure you have tried most of these steps but I'm going to list them any way so we have a complete picture of the trouble shooting process.

If your only getting local access that indicates that the router is broadcasting the wireless signal but unfortunately there is a connection issue between either the modem and router or the modem and the internet service provider. The first step is to verify that your modem is online with a good connection. If you have a working internet based phone than your in good shape. If not than you will need to research the light patterns of your modem or bypass the router to determine weather or not you have a connection to the ISP. The first step in trouble shooting a connection issue between the modem and router is to disconnect the Ethernet cable from the modem and the router than reconnect it. Make sure that the cable is connected to the correct ports. Next you will want to power cycle the computer, modem, and router. To do this you will need to shout down the computer and disconnect the power cables from both the modem and router. Allow all devices to remain off for 2 minutes. Plug the modem in first. Wait for the modem to establish a connection with the internet service provider(ISP). Depending on the type of modem this can take up to 5 minutes. After a connection to the ISP has been made reconnect the power to the router. Wait about another 2 minutes for the router to establish a connection with the modem then turn on the computers in the home. From this point you will need to retest.
If you still only have local access than there is a good chance there is an issue this either the Ethernet port on the modem or router. To trouble shoot the Ethernet port on the modem you can bypass the router and power cycle the modem and PC again. If the PC has no access wile directly connect to the modem than there is an issue with the modem and will need to be replaced. The good news is that most internet service providers will replace the modem for free. If all the trouble shooting steps above have failed than you will need to contact the router manufacture directly.

I hope that information above has helped is some way.
If possible please rate this solution.

I have At&T internet a motorola modem from them and a neatgear router rangemax WNR834B. AT&T helped me setup the wireless network. I think my router is bad since the power light does not light....

No solid power light = NO internet. Check and make sure router is plugged in. Try unplugging router for half a minute and plug it in again check and make sure the outlet works where you are plugging the router in and if still no power light you can contact Netgear support at 888-638-4327.

Internet connection suddenly shut off

Rather than spending any money/time trying to "trouble-shoot" the router, probably without success,
go buy a brand-new router.

Wireless router is not working

Go to Here for Linksys EasyLink Advisor (LELA). With this software you can monitor the routers status and troubleshoot.

Most trouble shooting involves disconnecting the power to the cable modem and the wrt54 router for about 10-20 seconds. Then plug in the modem until it lights, then plug in the router. The Advisor will then get a new address.

It also shows a graphic picture of your whole system.

I have a wrt54 and use this whenever I have a problem. I fix it then turn it off.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck

It says I'm connected to my wireless router but no web pages open

Since it worked when you last used it, the first thing to try is to reboot everything. Shut down the computer, the cable modem (by pulling the plug on the back of it), and the router (by pulling the plug on the back of it). Wait 30 seconds, then plug in the modem; wait and other 30 seconds, then plug in the router, wait another 30 and turn on the computer. It shouldn't actually require a full 30 seconds between each step, but if you do that, you'll know that you definitely gave each device enough time. That should fix the problem. If it doesn't, post again indicating what happened.

Hello, i having problems with my internet connection. I have the charter 5mb service. I am using a Motorola surfboard modem and a Belkin router. Most of the time the connection is fine, however many times...

have you tried checking the physical connection of the modem? and please unplug anything else that is connected to the modem while trouble shooting. 1st powercycle the modem thats unplugging the power cord from the modem for a bout 6 to 10 secs. then plug it back it. go to your modems defualt gateway.if you dont know it. it should be written on the modem as well.check for winsock errors. and ping errors as well. if everything is ok, but still having a problem. there might be an emi/rfi electro magnetic interference or radio frequency interference. thats why its advisable to unplug a router. but the main problem might be the router. always obtain the ip and set it to dhcp and that should do the trick.

DI 624- Cant connect from router to computer

Hi mark - please don't rate this til it's fixed. Hook it up the way you had it. i.e. modem>router>pc. Try it, probably won't work. Unplug the power on your modem and the router. After 60 seconds plug in your modem. When all the lights return to normal (except the activity light), plug in your router. Give it 20 seconds or so. Try it and let me know what happens. Thanks.
