Same problem when I try to add music. It shows up for a second, and then a big padlock displays.

I think that was what I was asking...how do you get it off "hold"?

I just kept pushing buttons and combinations and it finally unlocked.

I'm not really wild about this player.

But then I probably should read the directions huh?

It got stuck or locked, It does not move/play. There power indicaator has a red stripe inside & I changed the batter - a new one. nothing changes the position. Tried all switches including the one "HOLD".

My Sandisk c140 locked up yesterday. It won't turn off, none of the controls work. The screen is locked up in the middle of a song. It isn't the hold button.

    Hello everyone,

I also have had this issue of pushing the power button on, & having the screen open, & show the lock sign, for a couple of seconds. I have a Sansa c250 with a 1GB SD card in it, totaling to around 2GBs'. I'm using a Windows, XP, Home Edition PC, with Service Pack 2. I realize my solution might not work for most of you, or is a waist of your time. For this reason, I'd like to apologize before hand. "Sorry guys". But on my issue, what worked was that my HOLD BUTTON WAS ON. ONCE I CLICKED THE HOLD BUTTON OPPOSITE DIRECTION, (located on the bottom left corner, near the Record button, of the Mp3 player), (Going from the right, to the left of the bottom part, it worked! After I had pushed the button right to left, I right clicked on the PC's bottom right corner icon, (saying something like; Remove Hardware Safely), & proceeded to close the USB function of this device. I then unattatched the USB Sync Cable from the PC. Then I PUSHED the POWER BUTTON ON the Mp3 Player, & closed the device. After this step, I RESTARTED MY PC, & once the PC was Loaded, I ATTATCHED the USB CABLE BACK IN Mp3 PLAYER & THEN IN PC's USB. Then, the Sansa's Mp3 screen turned on, (WITHOUT THE LOCK SIGN IN SCREEN), & then I saw the Mp3 ARROWS- right to left & then left to right move, & the Mp3 wrote, "CONNECTED", on top area of screen, with the Battery Symbol on the top right of the screen, go from empty to full, (Continuesly Moving). My Mp3 had been fixed! I truely hope yours will also. If it doesn't, "SORRY!" I tried. After all, I'm not a Techy, far from it!

    Good Luck,

    Bye.

Mine's not on hold. I get the red flag in the battery as well. It worked one day - nothing changed - and then the next it's stuck. And the hold is definitely off. I wiggled it in case something inside got stuck but that didn't help anything. My player is just toast.

Try a "hard reset". Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to shut off. With the device off, press and hold the vol + and the center select button. Power it back on, see if that works. You can add to the question if you have more questions. Best of Luck.

You need to Have Windows XP / SP2, Wndows Media Player 10 or higher in order for the device to be recognized. If you have these components, try changing the mode on the device to MSC Mode. Settings>Mode>MSC. Best of Luck.
