Not the normal voicemail problems


Before you can do anything you need a M7310. Programming a Nortel voice mail requires M7310. It uses the 3 soft keys under the display to program it. You can get one cheap on EBAY. Next you need to find out what type of Voice Mail System in connected to your Nortel phone system. Below is a link to a Older StarTalk manual. You may have a StarTalk, StarTalk Flash, or a Call Pilot.

Why would a NorStar StarTalk suddenly stop accepting voicemail calls?


"Q: My Norstar Startalk, Flashtalk, or voice mail says my mailbox is not accepting any more messages. I deleted all my messages, but callers still cannot leave a message. Why?
A: Check with your voice mail administrator. Chances are another Mailbox on the system used up all the message storage space. Usually it's the general delivery mailbox that hasn't been checked for messages on a regular basis."

Get rid of New Voice Mail


Hello Fortina, it appears you have voicemails from your telephone company. If you wish to eliminate your voicemail service then we recommend you contact your telephone service provider.

Startalk Flash software upgrade


I beleive that the Star Talk Flash is long mfg discontinued. Depending on the software version of your telephone system, the current Voice Mail system is the Call Pilot 100. I put them in all the time and they are worlds easier to program than the Flash. They come with 10 mail boxes and a GUI interface that is menu driven and all you need is a crossover cable to program them. I would reccommend you have a tech install it originally as the initial programming can be confusing.

Reinstalling a Startalk Flash 2 and when I dial 903 or 983 I get


You dont have integration.
First this is at least 2 port voicemail so you should have at least two extensions and ports cross connected to startalk.
Once you verified your ports and extensions everything should work since you received system preprogrammed and none of the programming was lost.

Voice mail greeting


When you log into the mail box, option 8 will be for personal options. Then option 2, will allow you to record your personal greeting. If this is a Startalk vociemail.

Mailbox inactive


You can have this phone on one of many different Nortel phone systems and you can also have different voice mail systems. If your voice mail is old and based on a hard drive it could be failing. Chances are your voice mail is the problem. This can get very complicated for someone not familiar with phone systems and voice mail. I would highly suggest looking for a local phone system installation company that can come out and troubleshoot the problem. If your voice mail is 10+ years old and based on a hard drive you may want to replace it regardless instead of wasting time paying a tech to find an intermittent problem. A hard drive running 24/7 for 10 years will not las much longer anyway.

Going to voicemail


The phone you have can go on several different Norstar phone systems and you can have several different types of voice mail. Your voice mail (and possibly the phone system) needs to have programming changes, not the telephone. Your first step is to determine which Nortel phone system you have and also what model voice mail. You will need manuals for the phone system and voice mail. Hopefully you already have a programming or administration manual for the voice mail. Someone should have gotten this information when the system was first installed but that could have been many years ago.

What happens when you are waiting for that time? Do you hear absolutely nothing? Instead of being sent directly to your voice mail box, it may be sending callers to a voice mail branch where you would normally have a recording "press 1 for this, 2 for that" If there is no recording the system will wait for a response that the caller has no idea of and usually replay the message 3 times before defaulting to your mailbox (in this case a blank message). That is my best guess with the information I have from you so far.

Inactive features


Is this just voice mail or are other features not working. Voice mail is a separate part from the phone system so you could be having phone system trouble or voice mail trouble. Most Norstar system use a capacitor for memory backup and they typically do not fail. I have seen circumstances where rapid on/off cycles (that can happen when the power goes out in a storm etc..) cause the programming to become scrambled. You should put your phone system on a good surge protector or UPS battery backup. How about other programming? Did anything default? What is the time and date on the system?
