HP Deskjet 3940 will only print job in que when computer is restarted?
It seems that our printer is (somewhat) possessed!? I feel fairly comfortable working around problems on the computer, but haven't been able to figure this one out. The print job will go into the cue just fine, but will just sit there and not print...until the computer is restarted. Then on startup, as soon as most of the "thinking" is done, the printer will sometimes print the document just fine, or if it is a word document or word processing document, sometimes it will print it with jarble (*&$*&$*#).
Another thing I've noticed is sometimes when there is absolutely no other programs running, it might print (or might not) - but it's not guaranteed. That's just been the problem, it's off an on.
Any friggin clue out there!?!?!?

Normally this is the symbol that your printer is not on-line either for the reasons:
1) printer not turned on;
2) printer not connected properly;
3) printer driver damaged; - need to reinstall the printer driver with the CD provided;
4) print spooler service not activated in windows - need to enable the print spooler service in window console service;
if you have allot of documents in Que it can cause a printer to hang, delete any pending print jobs and shut the printer down, restart your computer to clear any ram, then turn your printer back on. Hope that helps.
Delete job in print queue Turn off both printer and computer restart both try printing again. If you really are out of options you can reinstall hp printer software from the hp website go to support type in f4135 and download the printer software for your computer.
I have a HP Deskjet 3940 printer. And similarly to this problem here I had a paper jam that would not clear, despite removing all the paper that was stuck in it, and following all 4 steps stated on the HP website. Such as taking the back cover off and blowing dust away and turning it off and on, etc.
None of these steps worked for me and consequently I couldnt get any new jobs to print - kept saying 'paper jam'. I was about to head down the shop to buy a new printer when i tried one last thing, which HAS fixed the problem!
I put in a large stack of paper onto the feeder. and then pushed it forcefully in and out repeatedly. To my amazement this has solved the paper jam. As a very last resort, might be worth trying this?
switch of the printer first remove the usb cable from the printer and uninstall the printer driver nad remove printer from device manager also. to go to the device manager do these steps first right click on my computer and then go to properties and the click on hardware tab and then click on device manager and go to universal serial bus controllers just click on + tab it will expand and it will show the list of connected hardware select usb printing support and right click on and uninstall then restart you system. after coplete boot run the driver software and connect the usb cable when it will prompt you and switch on the printer. it will install your printer
