Question about Sony KP-53S35 53" Rear Projection Television

Convergence or D board problem?

I have an issue with the upper right corner of the picture bending the RGB so I see all three individually, but just in that corner of the screen. A tap to one of the connectors on the board will snap it out of it for about 20 seconds, only to return. I have resoldered all connections on the bottom of the board with no fix. Could it be a cap?

Re: Convergence or D board problem?

You missed ! Be more on target and you will get it done....
Solder all convergence IC pins and any suspicious connects
in area of convergence circuitry AND solder all board edge connectors, both boards...........Next, try to isolate with tapping
technique................Last,no it cannot be a cap, but it could be
internal in one of the STK amp IC's......................T.

Go to menu then setup if you do not see convergence in menu then you have blowed fuse FL231 on the Deflection Board.
If you have convergence then with OFF Press and hold VOL- CH-
at same time wait till TV comes on release Now you should be in Factory Settings.

Convergence is off in the lower right and upper left corner

The repair isn't too complicated if you're comfortable working with a soldering iron. Sounds like one of the "guns" is shot. The chips that need replacing are attached to the heatsink on the convergence board. The reason for replacing both chips is if you're going to bother to take the board out and replace one bad chip, that is the best time to replace the other older chip. The link below is to step by step instructions including pictures of the repair. You can check it out to see if you want to try it. If not, the repair is expensive (between 250-400) depending on the repairman. Best of luck with your convergence problem.

Picture is all distorted ,colors dont match up need 3d glasses to watch

HI, this is basic convergence failure. the convergence board controls the RGB stream and , if its malfunctioning or, the convergence chip set is damaged, it will distort the entire display and the colors will not be regulated correctly as you are experiencing at this time.

simply replacing the convergence board in this unit will fix your issue.

Blue spot on screen

Hi. this is called convergence failure. the convergence board is a circuit board that regulates the RGB(RED BLUE GREEN) streams that make up the color picture. If the convergence board chips are malfunctioning, you will see a distorted view of these RGB streams. This is what you are experiencing at this time.

Simply replacing the convergence board or chips will fix this issue.

Please rate and have a great day:)

You have bad convergence amps. The fluid may need to be changed if the picture had a hazey look to it before the convergence went bad.

Philips Blue Shadowing

If you have not already done so go into the picture menu and set the convergence. The convergence is the angle at which the three picture tubes meat at a given distance. The tv will have at least 3 and up to 64 convergence points, and those 64 can be set for all three colors. This can be tiresome but I'll be it will solve your problem. What your trying to do is get the color in the cross-hair so you cannot see the color behind the target. On top of the fine setting for each point and color you will probably have 3 gross adujustments for blue and green and maybe red. These adjustments will affect positioning, like what you are discribing. You should do this at least every month, the thermal cycleing of the lamps is what will cause this to creep out of adjustment.

Convergence problem?

The convergence anp ICs are usually what go bad in that unit. They are two ICs both are STK392-040 and they are at board location ICZ103 and IZC103 on the Sub Board attached to large heat sinks. You can get replacements with free installation instructions and free on line tech support at the following link.

Selective "non-convergence" issues

Sounds like to may have a yoke loose on a tube. If it's not that, you may have somehow damaged the convergence board. Look for any cracks in the board. If you find any, solder across the beaks and it should be fine. Good luck and I hope this has helped in some way
