Question about Blue Flame Charmglow 30K BTU NG Vent Free Space Heater

Open Question

We just inherited a Charmglow blue flame heater model CGL300TB (28K BTU) and we need to know if this will run just on gas without any electricity. Can you help? Also, do you know where we can find the manuals for this? Thanks, Steve

SOURCE: charmglow electric fireplace . no light for flame effect

You will have to connect a 12v dc power supply to the flame motor. The controller on the board has fried. I built a regulated 12 v dc power supply and tapped it into the bulb circuit so it will power the motor when the bulbs come on. You may have to find an electrician or techie to rig this up safely.Good luck!

SOURCE: The flame keeps intermittently going out on my gas heater

The air intake hole on the pilot is probably clogged with a small bit of dust or hair. Look to see if your flame is yellowish instead of a nice blue on the pilot. Your pilot should always be blue, also look to see if the pilot is touching the thermal couple. This is a easy fix if your flame has a yellow tip to it and is barily missing the thermal couple. Turn off your heater for 30 minutes to allow it to cool. Next locate the small air intake hole on the pilot it should be roughly a 1/16 diamiter hole. Get a bendy straw and use it to blow through the hole (gently) any pressure over 30 psi will damage the unit. Reassemble and test light your pilot. A low or yellow flame on your pilot cuasing it to miss the thermal couple activates your heaters safety shut off system. These systems are there for a reason, NEVER attempt to adjust your gas controls, If it does not work and cannot be fixed with a good cleaning, call a repair man.

Can i convert jandy lxi heater 400k btu propane gas to natural gas ?

Any propane heater can be converted to natural gas and vice versa all you need is the correct regulator and orifices and possably a change to the exhaust. The problem is it is not something your average handyman should do. When dealing with gas or fumes it is always best to use a certified and insured repair man who has the proper test equiptment to check for leaks. Small leaks will not bubble with the "dish soap test" so you should always err on the side of caution.

I can"t keep my pilot light going.

I am assuming this is a patio heater. I have extensive experience with gas appliances. The most common problem with pilot light issues is the thermocouple it is a probe that is directly over the flame , it senses the flame and allows gas to flow, if it senses no flame the gas valve closes. Patio heaters are also quite finicky, sometimes a simple adjustment of the thermocouple will do the trick. Also thorough cleaning of the orifice is necessary at least 1 x a year.

I need to get a manual for a Charmglow electric fireplace Model # CGN250TED-C 25,000 BTU Pure Comfort solutions and I cant find a website, i need to know where to change it from natural gas to propane. ...

I am almost totally confused. You started out saying you have a Charmglow Electric Fireplace. Then you said you want to change it from natural gas to propane.

Could you please be a little more specific in what you have? So I can help you. As Charmglow only makes Electric Fireplaces. No gas ones.

Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you.

Charmglow model cgl300tq. cannot seem to get enough gas to make ignition! i keep pilot inlet tube clean. how can i tell if it is the regulator. it is definitely a gas flow problem!

You will need a manometer to determine your gas pressure, the amount required is posted on your appliance. Take both a static and dynamic reading on the inlet side of the gas valve. If it is not high enough consult a plumber. If it is take a reading on the manifold side. If the gas pressure is too low again consult a plumber. If it is within spec check orifaces and burner tubes if any for debris and spiders.

When it goes to the second and third stage on the dial to make it hotter the flame goes out. If you re-pilot it, it comes right bak on, but it will not stay on the higher settings.

there is a flame rod that looks like a thermocouple at one end of the burner. Pull it back away from the burner toward the front of the heater slightly. This will allow the heater to operate at higher temps without shutting off the gas to the burner. The high limit will still work but the sensor is in the flame to close and is getting to hot as the flames get higher

That heater was not designed to be safely converted to Natural Gas. Even if you could convert it, it would cost more to do that than to replace the heater.
