Question about ASUS Eee 4G Notebook

1 Answer

I bought a hp mini 110-1025DX with window xp home edition. Surprisingly, I can not find Chinese language input option in the Language and Region of Control Panel. All listed are western language. How and where to install a package so that I can install, read and input in Chinese language. Thanks a lot for the help!

There is no update for Chinese language from the trimmed window version on HP mini 110.

  • apotoftea Oct 09, 2009

It let you use the updates. It is a window xp home version in HP minibook. But the update from microsoft does not provide any option that could download and install a chinese language and region function to allow you to read/write. Strangely, it has most other languages even from remoted Africa countries but not Chinese. So I consider it is trimmed for netbook since from common sense, Window started to add Chinese languages since Window 2000. This is a very stupid mistake by HP. Not the technically, but mentally. If you find any solutions, please post. Thanks!!

The language packs are downloads through windows update. Click on the start button and there should be a link to windows update there. When windows update comes up on the screen it will automatically scan your system, when it finishes it will say something like new updates available and give two choices...express or custom update. Click on custom and it will show you optional updates for you to download, besides the Chineses language pack, there are many others as well as hardware updates for your metwork cards, video card, modem, touchpad...etc. Windows will download and install all these updates for you and then they will be available to you to use.

I did not know you had a "trimmed" version of Windows. Why would a "trimmed" version not let you use Windows Update?

How can I type Japanese o keybord?

Hai ! This is possible : )

Type in Chinese, Japanese, and other character-based languages

To type text on your computer in character-based languages, such as Chinese and Japanese, follow these steps:

[Source: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Type-in-Chinese-Japanese-and-other-character-based-languages]

  1. Add the language as an input language. If you want to use an input method editor (IME), make sure you select it when you add the input language. For more information, see Add an input language.
    Add an input language

You can edit documents in multiple languages by changing the language (the input language) in which you type. Input languages are included with Windows, but you need to add them to your list of languages before you can use them.

    1. Open Regional and Language Options by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png, clicking Control Panel, clicking Clock, Language, and Region, and then clicking Regional and Language Options.

    2. Click the Keyboards and Languages tab, and then click Change keyboards.

    3. Under Installed services, click Add.

    4. Double-click the language you want to add, double-click the text services you want to add, select the text services options you want to add, and then click OK.

  1. Change your input language to the language you installed. For more information, see Change your input language.

Change your input language

The input language is a setting in Windows that controls the language you use to type information on your computer. Before you can change an input language, you need to add that language to Windows. For more information, see Add an input language.
To change the input language

Click the Input language button on the Language bar, and then click the input language you want to use.

If you don't see the Language bar, right-click the taskbar, point to Toolbars, and then click Language bar.

  1. Change your keyboard layout to the desired layout. For more information, see Change your keyboard layout.

Change your keyboard layout

You can customize your keyboard for a specific language or format by changing the keyboard layout. The layout controls which characters appear on the screen when you press the keys on your keyboard. Some input languages have several keyboard layouts; others have only one. For example, you can change your keyboard layout from the English QWERTY format to the English Dvorak format. After you change the layout, the characters on your screen might not correspond to the characters on your keyboard keys.

Before you can change the keyboard layout, you must add the input language and keyboard layout that you want to use to Windows. For more information, see Add an input language.

TIP:
After you are done you can switch between Japanese and English very easily by manually pressing the on screen buttons or using keyboard commands like SHIFT+ALT to switch between Japanese (???) and the Alphabet.

I just bought a second had pc and windows is not in english what can i do ?

in what language it was originally installed??? you could try installing the FREE LANGUAGE PACK from microsoft... if it was originally installed in FRENCH or SPANISH, than you don't have a choice, (live with it or re-install Windows in the desired language)... sorry! On the other hand,If it was originally installed in ENGLISH than the language pack is installed, it's just a matter of reverting to the desired language...

Cheers!

Eee pc 4G with windows xp, its in chinese. how do i change the language to english, is it possible without downloading another version of windows xp

Start button, control panel, language, change it and region to USA,
English.

If it is a Chinese install, the only way you can change it is if windows
is Pro, or ultimate. Home editions can not load language packs.

How to convert english xp sp2 to mandarin xp sp2? tnx

Go to the start button, then control panel, when you open control panel
if you don't see Region and Language, look up in the top corner and switch to classic view.

In region and language is where you change the language and keyboard.

If Chinese is not there, you might have to have the windows XP disk,'
to install the language, so times they are not all installed to save space.

Also, go to windows updates, its also in control panel, check for updates, you might find that you can load the language from there .
