Hi there, what you are referring to is called the Yellow Light of Death (YLOD). This indicates a general hardware failure normally due to overheating. When these PS3's were produced Sony decided to use lead free solder. The problem with lead free solder is that it is not as flexible as leaded solder but it is cheaper and more environmentally friendly. When the console gets hot and cools down hairline cracks appear within these solder joints and a good electrical contact cannot be made. This then causes the console to fail. It could be on a number of different components including the CPU, GPU or memory. There is a temporary cure that may or may not work but ultimately the console will need to be repaired professionally or replaced. As it is out of warranty Sony will not replace it but will offer a refurbished unit for around £130. If you look on Youtube for Yellow light of death fix there is a way that you can re-heat the solder joints using a heat gun but if you are not confident taking apart electrical items then this really may not be something you want to try.

I am sorry I cant give you any better news but unfortunately it is a very common problem with the PS3.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

Visco vsc20v1 will not powers on and right back off

How many times this standby/power light blinks at one time switch ON? Count it carefully. These blinks are fault indication, and known as blinking codes. From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON; you can get an idea about the faulty circuit stage inside the TV. This will make repair easy. After pressing the on button it turns green for 5 seconds then it flashes yellow/orange for a second then it flashes red.

Yellow Light of DeathThe "Yellow Light of Death" or YLOD is the common phrase people use to describe the following sequence when they try to turn on their PS3:

  • Press Power Button
  • Red Light Flashes Three Times
  • Yellow Light Flashes
  • Green Light Flashes
  • Beeps Three Times
  • Red Light Flashes

The sequence above may vary a bit but you do see the flashing yellow light (sometimes shows up as orange) that normally you would not see when operating your PS3. The YLOD is a general hardware fault that can mean a lot of things. However, one of the problems is cracked solder that leads the PS3 to think one of its internal chips is not connected or is broken somehow. Cracked solder can happen when the chips get too hot (RSX most likely) and leads the motherboard to start bending, which may crack the solder. Changing the power supply (lower the average wattage going to the chips to lower the heat) and better thermal compound (heat dissipates faster to the heatsink) may prevent this error from occurring. However, if your PS3 has already had the YLOD, then you can reflow your motherboard every few months to keep it working (but it is not a permanent fix as the YLOD usually comes back).

My glowbouy flashes green and red...what does this mean

According to the owners manual for these swimming pool lights, this is what each colored indicator means. Hope this helps.

Solid green
The battery pack is fully charged.
Slow flashing green
The battery pack is almost fully charged.
Slow flashing yellow
The battery pack is half charged.
Medium flashing yellow
The battery pack is less than half charged.
Fast flashing yellow
The battery pack has almost no charge.
Fast flashing red
A charging error has occurred and the light should be unplugged and then plugged back in. If the Fast Flashing Red persists after several attempts, the battery condition is questionable.

Also in the trouble shooting guide, it mentions this:

Problem: Red Indicator Light Is Flashing While Charging

Solution:
A red flashing indicator light when charging indicates a selftest
error condition. Unplug the product and plug it in again.
Try this several times; if the indicator light continues to flash
red, unplug the GlowBuoy and take it to an authorized service
depot.

Tv keeps turning itself off

You most likely either have a faulty power supply or high voltage transformer that is failing. You can test them both with a voltmeter or multi-tester. The capacitors on the newer sets seem to overheat and burn out quickly

Printer status screen is red and will not print Canon i560 Inkjet

You need to count the number of flashes, usually long green then a certain number of flashes, sometimes alternating red and green flashes. I need to know the number of flashes to tell you what the error is.

Well when I turn on my ps3 the green light turns into a yellow light some people call this the yellow light of death after it goes yellow it turns into a flashing red light I try to repaet it but it keeps...

well yes obviously the flashing red light means that if u do not turn off ur PS3 it will die. but depending on how long u have had ur PS3, it may be becuase the life span is almost over.
if u have not had for a couple years it is most likely a manufacturing error
u should send it in to sony before the warranty is up and have them take a look at it
