Question about Toshiba Satellite A75-S2292 (PSA70U09K00G) PC Notebook

Replaced the power jack on the motherboad because

Relaced the power jack on the motherboad because the battery would not charge and it would not run on direct AC power. Now it will not power on at all. The power plug and power supply are good. I may have shorted out the motherboard or may have messed up the power line on the board???

As stated by ParrotheadPC, you need to have the correct equipment and techniques for repairing these jacks. All is not lost though. Take the unit to a servicer that has experience with surface mounted devices and multi-layered PC boards and he/she may be able to salvage it for you. Please note that I have also seen the traces burned because of excessive heat used to desolder and resolder the jacks,

If you desoldered and resoldered the jack onto the motherboard, the most reasonable assumption on my part would be that you damaged the tiny brass inserts in the jack leg sockets. These are very fragile and can be easily damaged and if so will not transfer power correctly throughout the motherboard. I have literally destroyed motherboards by not having the proper equipment and manhandling the boards. It does not take much and I applaud you even attempting it, because it is one of the hardest home projects to do....soldering a motherboard. It's much better working on the ones where the jack is connected to a satellite plug that connects to the motherboard....I try ti work on those solely so I don't have to mess with the other. But understand it could also not be your fault entirely because there is much more to the power circuit than just the jack, and there could have been damage done all the way down the line when the jack problems came about. I would say get another board and practice on the old one.

Why is my notebook not charging during use

The issue would be in one of two places. 1) The power cord may be faulty. 2) The power jack on the laptop has stopped working. Fortunately, both of these can be replaced. Check the power cord for damage to the insulation, if any is found it needs to be replaced. If there is a "power" indicator light on the power pack, make sure it is lit. If not, it needs replaced. If a visual inspection of the cord checks okay, plug it in to the laptop and check for movement on the jack. If there is no movement, check to see if the "Plugged in/Charging" light is illuminated. If not, the power jack is faulty. I hope this helps you.

Acer aspire 5740 no power

Hello,

It sounds lie the charger jack in the laptop is broken. When you installed the new battery the laptop had power to run several hours but once the battery drained it could not be charged back up. Check the charging jack when the charger plugs into. I would bet that you will find to loose or broken. These jacks can be replaced but you will need to take the laptop apart and do a little soldering to do the job. Check Ebay for the jack, you can do a search for your model laptop along with "power jack", the parts should run less than $10 with shipping.

I always get plugged in not charging when i charge my laptop even when it is not fully charged

If the laptop works fine off the power cord without any problems then your power cord is ok, but if the battery is not charging then the battery is probably dead and needs to be replaced. Batteries only have a useful life, and when it's over they have to be replaced.

If the laptop does not work with the power cord then either the power cord is bad or the DC Power Jack where the power cord plugs into the laptop. If either of them is bad the battery will not charge.

Check your DC Power Jack which is where the power cord plugs into the computer. Take an ink pen and push the tip inside the jack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have to take the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto the motherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.

The battery will not charge if it runs down

HI there,

When a laptop/netbook will run on the A/C Adapter but the battery won't charge, there are only 3 things that can be wrong.

1. The battery is dead (replace the battery)
2. The A/C adapter's charging system is not functioning but the power function is. (replace the A/C adapter)
3. The DC power jack which is where the adapter plugs into the laptop is partially failing, providing power but no charging. (replace the DC jack)

Try to find a friend with an adapter/charger that fits your netbook and see what happens with that first. If that doesn't work, try to find someone whose Netbook takes the same battery and test if yours will charge in their laptop. After that, if your battery's not dead and you have a working charger, it's the DC jack and that costs about 80 to 100 to be replaced. They have to take apart the netbook, remove the jack and solder on a new one.

Good Luck

Marcus

Battery will not charge. Got startup message about not being able to determine wattage. Icon says plugged in not charging. Computer was dropped on power jack. Replaced power jack. Gives computer power...

The power adapter MUST BE a Dell brand power adapter.
If it is, then the socket that was replaced is not the right part.
Of course, the laptop can work just fine with the power adapter, it justwon't charge the battery.

My inspiron 1525 is not charging. Have replaced battery and charging lead and still does not charge.

Based on what you have stated, you replaced the battery and charging lead but the laptop still won't charge. What do you mean by charging lead?
Are you referring to the power adapter?

Since you already changed those two things, then the problem could be the power jack of the laptop and/or the connections inside the laptop.

Try to plug the power adapter slowly and try to wiggle it. It you feel that the power jack is wiggling, then the problem is a loose power jack that is why it won't charge. And you need to have a tech tighten that up for you.

Have a great day!

Plugged in running on ac power doesnt charge battery

battery could be bad, charger could be bad, or the jack needs to be replaced. If you cannot replace the jack yourself, I can do it for you.

You'll need a multimeter to troubleshoot the problem

When using ac adapter to my Tecra 8000 the power light is yellow

Try a new battery and if the new battery wont charge then its either going to be a bad ac adaptor or a bad motherboad. If the new battery charges then you'll know that the old battery went bad.
