I have deleted asus updates in start menu but every time i boot up the update box pops up. I have gone in msconfig nohthing there I have gone in services nothing there. HELP PLEASE

Go to the Task Scheduler and see if it is launching there. It could be scheduled to run at "log on of any user". To open the Scheduler, click Start and then left click on Control Panel in the right hand column. Click on System and Security at the top of the left hand column in the Control Panel window. Near the bottom of the System and Security window, look for Administrative Tools. Left click on the link for Schedule Tasks under the Administrative Tools heading. Expand the Task Schedule Library and check the various folders in this section for the Asus Update program. My computer has a few Asus tools in their own folder at the top of the list.

That should be where it is hiding but it could be in another folder in the Scheduler. Click on the item and then either right-click and select Disable or Delete (to permanently remove the Update program from the schedule). Alternatively, click on Action and then Disable or Delete. This is the second option after File.

I hope this helps.

Tip

Speed up your browsing of Windows 2000 & XP machines.

Here's a great tip to speed up your browsing of Windows XP machines. Its actually a fix to a bug installed as default in Windows 2000 that scans shared files for Scheduled Tasks. And it turns out that you can experience a delay as long as 30 seconds when you try to view shared files across a network because Windows 2000 is using the extra time to search the remote computer for any Scheduled Tasks. Note that though the fix is originally intended for only those affected, Windows 2000 users will experience that the actual browsing speed of both the Internet & Windows Explorers improve significantly after applying it since it doesn't search for Scheduled Tasks anymore. Here's how :

Open up the Registry and go to :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/RemoteComputer/NameSpace

Under that branch, select the key :

{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}

And delete it.

This is key that instructs Windows to search for Scheduled Tasks. If you like you may want to export the exact branch so that you can restore the key if necessary.

This fix is so effective that it doesn't require a reboot and you can almost immediately determine yourself how much it speeds up your browsing processes.

Thanks

Have a great day.

Error when scheduling a task

I came up with a temporary fix by changing the Run as: from "Toshiba-ea\Toshiba" to "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM". This allowed me to schedule the tasks accordingly. Note that I still do not know the password for Toshiba!

Windows Vista Many Taskeng.exe processes

1. Go to the start menu.
2. Type task scheduler and press enter.
3. Press continue on the UAC popup.
4. In the left pane of task scheduler, underneath Task Scheduler Local, right-click on Task Scheduler Library.
5. In the View submenu, make sure the Show Hidden Tasks option is checked.
6. Widen the Name column in the center pane. The hidden task that is likely at fault has a name that starts with User_Feed_Synchronization, followed by a dash and a bunch of digits inside a curly brace.
7. Select that task in the middle pane by clicking on its name.
8. To verify that this scheduled task is creating all those taskeng.exe processes, select the History tab in the middle pane near the middle of the screen. If you expand out the Level and Date and Time Columns, you should see a bunch of errors and date and times that are 5 minutes apart. If that's the case, then this task is the problem.
9. On the rightmost pane, select Disable.
10. There may be more than one scheduled task like this, so you'd need to disable any or all that were causing problems.
