The brushes are usually driven by a belt that connects to one of the ends. They break. Check to see if yours has.

Oreck brush only turns a tiny bit and belt pulley get hot belt not turning much either

If your brush is not turning properly then you need to check the bearing ends to see if there is any hair, string, or thread wound around the brush shaft. If there is and you can remove it, that might fix your problem otherwise I would suggest getting a new brush roller.

Our brush doesn't rotate anymore on our U5402-900 vacuum cleaner. What are common causes of this?

The number one cause of brushes not rotating is a broken belt. If you remove the four screws holding the bottom plate, you'll see a short, wide rubber belt that goes around the roller.

If this is broken, it's easy to replace. They do break because of age and wear. One of the leading causes of breakage is when the roller gets something - a curtain cord, for example - wrapped around it. If you don't immediately shut off the vacuum & remove the cord, the belt will continue to try to turn the roller (which can't turn), and this generates a lot of heat in just a few seconds.

The number two cause of brushes not rotating is, as suggested above, something jammed & wound around the roller. It's always a good idea to turn the vacuum over periodically and clean the roller... including using scissors or a knife to snip & remove wound hairs & threads. A clean and healthy roller will help to keep your belt happy!

BRUSH WILL NOT TURN

Remove any fibers (hair, carpet thread, etc.) or other trash wound up around the brush bushings. If necessary, disassemble and clean the bushings. This alone may not repair the problem, it is only the cause. After that, check the belt for bad spots - a stalled brush often causes the belt to wear heavily in one spot or break. Replace as needed.

THE BRUSH ON MY HEAD FOR THE SEBO K1 HAS STOPPED SPINNING WHY???

Check the brush roller at each side to see if threads are wound around it. Also, check the brush to see if there are threads wound around it. This is what generally stops the brushes from spinning. It will take sometime to unwind the threads/lint and you may need scissors and tweezers to fully remove all of them but it will be worth it!

My brush roller stopped spinning so I had to take it off and clean out all the hair that had gotten wound around it. I replaces it and now it is make a lound noise, but only when the brush is on. Could it...

Could very well be the belt. When cleaning the brush it is a good idea to add some WD40 at the ends where the plastic pieces are that hold the brush in the vacuum. The brush needs to be able to move freely around the plastic pieces. Add the WD40 and rotate the plastic pieces around the brush until they move freely. Reassemble making sure the belt is put in correctly so the brush moves in the right direction.
Please provide a Thumbs Up if this solution is of help to you. Paul

The brush will not rotate. I thought this was a direct drive system.

Note: The brush will not rotate when the machine is locked in the upright position, because an internal micro-switch turns the brush motor off.

- Check the belt through the clear brush cover. If this appears damaged or broken, please take your machine to a local BISSELL Authorized Service Center to have this replaced. If the belt is intact, please continue checking the following:
- Ensure both power switches are turned on when you check for brush rotation.
- Unplug the power cord and remove the handle completely. Slide handle back into the lower section of handle, ensuring the screw is in tight. If the handle is not aligned properly, this will affect the power of the brush motor.
- Look for debris wrapped around the brush (i.e. string, hair, fibers, etc.). When the machine is unplugged, cut away any visible hair, fibers or debris from the brush roller. This brush is NOT removable from the machine.
- If something has become lodged in the foot and the brush shuts off, turn off the vacuum and unplug this from the outlet. You can now remove the obstruction. The brush will automatically reset when the vacuum is plugged in and turned back on.

If you continue to experience difficulty with this, please take your machine to the following Service Center in your area. The warranty on this machine is five years.

New Belt, but can't reinstall brush correctly

the rectangular and round ends are not intended to turn ..they stay fixed.. the bearing is inside the brush next to the round and rectangular ends .. if the ends dont move freely then there may be hair or string wound around the bearings .. clean that out so that things turn freely (the end may even come off) ... once you have things free and clean .. then putting the brush back in place does take some strength .. the belt gets very tight and its difficult but possible to get the rectangle inserted in its slot ..

Brush won't spin. Put it back on the ribbed belt

Make sure the driving motor (power on) is turning (without the belt attached). Make sure the brush turns freely when the belt is off (it's probably jammed with wound-up hair, thread, and other debris--remove the brush and clean/lightly oil the bearings). Check the tension of the belt which should be fairly firm--replace if sloppy. Rotate the motor shaft by hand when everything is back together and make sure the brush can be driven without the belt trying to jump off. Hope this helps!

Bar doesn't turn unless vacuum is pushed.

Oh for crying out loud! That button has been there since day one but I NEVER looked at it! I guess I thought is there to be symetrical! I also sucked up carpet thread. I was okay for a while but when I then sucked up my dustcloth the brush quit. Usually this stuff happens right before the guests are due so at least this time I got to fix it without pressure!
