Question about Sony PlayStation® 3 (60 GB) Console
The PS3 randomly switched itself during FIFA10, then flashed a red light. I have had this happen before and thought it would be the YLOD as before. However it turned back on, the XMB loaded, then after about 15 secs it started "lagging" gradually become slower and slower til it turned itswelf off. Again and again. It seems to be a fan problem as I put my ear near the PS3 and noticed as the fan slows, the PS3 slows and when the fan goes off, the PS3 goes off. I rang Sony, they wanted 150 for a replacement lol. I told them to go **** themselves as it was already a replacement they had sent me before for free though. But still.
Anyways, I decided to sell it on ebay, to fund a new slim PS3. Which is much more stable, uses less energy and has a 66% supirior ventilation system and is alot quieter with a bigger HDD. Cool
Before you sell or send it in either try formatting the hdd to fix any bad sectors in your system, and get yourself a can of CO2 pc internal spray that stuff is high powered and used to clean inside systems so it will take all the dust away from the fan to stop it from clogging up

Tips for a great answer:

Your PS3's problems are actually being caused by a connection error between the hard drive and motherboard. Without a correctly working hard drive connection your PS3 is unable to function and goes into shutdown mode, with the flashing red light warning.
So in order to fix the blinking red light on your PS3 you will need to repair the connection between the HDD and the motherboard. There is actually a rather simple way that you can do this yourself; while your PS3 console is switched off, locate the hard drive enclosure on the end of your console. Remove the plastic cover plate, then using a screwdriver unscrew the hard drive itself from its socket. Carefully remove it completely, then put it back in again. Tighten the holding screw, then restart your PS3

system turns on but then turns itself off, beeps at you and flashes it's lights
at you then you have over heated the system. The GPU chip has probly pulled
itself away from the board. This will require you to diassemble the PS3...
