Unplug stove
open oven door
remove racks
look at the bottom of oven towards the back
there should be screws or thumb screws
remove them and the floor of the oven should come out
then on the burner tube(where the flame comes out)
there should be a little ceramic piece that usually has two screws
remove them and unplug the wiring to it
at that point you should have it figured out
holler at me with any additional questions

My elderly neighbour is trying to light her Hygena Classi Oven built in when she turns the knob to the required number no gas is coming out to light it.

Hello Jean;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

There are several different components that may be at fault for this problem. The most probable is a bad gas ignitor. Your ignitor may either be broken or too weak to open the gas valve.

On built in wall ovens:
1.) Remove the oven door. Tilt it out to where is stays slightly open and lift straight up. When replacing the oven door make sure the hinges that the door mounts on are pulled slightly out to slide the door back on.
2.) Remove the cover on the bottom of the oven. You will see the gas burner and in the center of the back wall the gas ignitor.
3.) To replace the ignitor, you will have to remove the two plates below the ignitor.

Locate your oven model number. It is on a label either on the face of the oven after you open the door or on the side of the door.

Go into the internet and search; "Ignitor and your model number".

Make sure both your oven gas and electrical power are turned off before you do anything!

What you must do is remove the racks and the oven bottom number 8.
under that floorboard is a flame spreader number 20.
Once that is out yer way you can unplug the ignitor and lift out the burner/ignitor 18'
Do not drop the ignitor or bang it against anything nor do you want to get skin oils on the filement. It would die an early death. How hard is this to do? Not too bad. The gas does not need to be shut off and you can fix it in place. If you can get the oven door to lift off then that would make it even easier. Most of the oven doors will lift off the hinges.

Oven does not work, no gas smell. The stove top still works. What is it??

most likely you need to replace the ignitor, open the oven door, remove the racks and the bottom floor and you'll see the ignitor, put oven on 350 and the flame should lite in around 30 to 40 seconds, any longer you have a bad ignitor, open the draw under the oven door and look around the opening and you'll see a tag with the model and serial your parts store, give them the model number and they'll give you the correct can check with a meter first to see if the ignitor is bad but this is a common problem,a spill over or just from normal use can damage the ignitor.

Hello there:
Normally if your ignitor is coming on in the specified time usually around 45 to 75 seconds
this would indicate that the thermostat is defective and needs to be replaced.
However if the ignitor its taking longer that this this would indicate that the ignitor is getting weak and should be replaced.
I would recommend replacing the ignitor along with the thermostate to ensure that you are using new parts you will get better performance with new parts ok
Hope this is very helpful for you
Best regards Michael

Oven appears to start, takes forever to preheat,

This is what I would do: I would unplug the range and connect my test cord to your range cord. I use an ammeter along with my test cord to read the amp draw of the bake ignitor. If it cannot get above 3.5 amps I know the ignitor is bad or weak. Since the oven is working that means there is a good circuit. In order for the safety bi-metal to open the amp draw must reach 3.5 amps or better. So to me I am thinking bad ignitor. To get to it I remove the door oven racks and bottom, I then remove the flame spreader and unplug the quick connect to the ignitor. I remove the burner and ignitor and replace the ignitor on a work bench. I am too old to be bending over and trying to do any parts replacement inside an oven. LOL. I have a training film which shows how the silicone carbide ignitor works HERE. Post a model number and I may have a service manual, do not forget to rate the answer.

Ignitor coil bad

Open the oven door and remove the two thumb screws located at the raer of the oven floor. Pull up on the floor from the rear and then out from the front flange. Set it aside. There may be a screw that secures the oven burner diffuser, remove it and remove the diffuser and set aside. You will now see the oven ignitor on the side of the burner. It is held in with two screws. Use a few drops of dish detergent to loosen the screws before you attempt to take them out. Remove the screws, disconnect the wiring terminal block and remove the ignitor. Reverse the procedure and you are good to go!
