Question about Kenmore Dryers

1 Answer

I am unable to find the vent that leads from the lint screen to the back of the dryer, I am using a narrow vaccum to clean it out, but it keeps getting caught on something. Is there not a clear path, if not there are a lot of places for the lint to get trapped within the dryer, forgetting the dryer vent leading outside.

No i dont believe their is a clear path. depending on your model it may bend in the rear back.if your filter is on the front of the dryer when u open the door then the vent bends to the left but their is a blower wheel u are probably hitting. can go through the back and get most of it after u have cleaned out the front. if your filter is on the top then you can only clean so much. the unit needs to come apart to clean it out properly.

My WGD9200SQ0 gas dryer lights up in beginning for about 2 minuets then flame goes out and does not relight. What's the problem? Coils been replaced

Dryers usually have interlocks to keep things from overheating or, worse, catching on fire. You may be able to narrow it down a bit by seeing if it matters whether there are any clothes in the dryer. Most likely, the dryer thinks it's overheating, or in danger of doing so. Couple of possibilities. For anything involving disassembly or hands into any part of the dryer but the clothes tumbler, make sure you unplug the dryer and turn off the gas. No short cuts there, you can kill yourself.
  • Exhaust vent is clogged, no exit for hot damp air, too much back pressure on fan. Undo hose clamp in back. Clean lint from hose, reachable area in back of dryer, and in wall. Check outside as well, if the vent goes under your house or anywhere but right through the wall. Make sure the outside vent isn't blocked, jammed, or clogged. Some folks religiously clean their lint screen, but let the vent accumulate stuff for years.
  • Air inlet is clogged. Laundry looms accumulate lint. Sometimes that can end up drawn back into the air inlets. Make sure vent through-holes in back are clean and unblocked.
  • If you unscrew the back panel, look at the air inlet to the burner area (careful if it was just on) and clear lint.
  • The output blower motor can get clogged with lint and not actually move air anymore. You may have to do a bit more disassembly - probably a few more 1/4" hex head screws to open the fan assembly that feeds to the outlet duct. You may see a ton of lint built up between the blades. Remove it with fingers, vacuum cleaner, canned air, or the like. That will also likely help a bit.
  • There are actual sensors. You'll need to look at a DIY list for how to check them with a voltmeter, but they'll fail from time to time and trip an interlock - most dryers, for safety, are built to assume the worst if one of the sensors fails, to make sure a sensor failure doesn't lead to destroyed clothes or fires.
Good Luck!

Dryer keeps saying check filter - lint screen is clean-dryer won't run

Had the same problem. Filter was clean. Vacuumed out the area under the filter. Still had problem. Unplugged the dryer. Removed the hose vent (back of dryer) and checked the exhaust -- all clean. Plugged the dryer back in and was fine. Still going to check the vent to the outside for lint buildup.

We have a combo dryer and washer. Washer is A2444330KH. Leaves lint on cotton shirts, have cleaned the filter no help. Any ideas? David

Dryer lint not only presents a problem by cluttering up your clothes with white specks, but it can also lead to a dryer fire. While it is impossible to completely eliminate dryer lint, you can take action to drastically reduce lint and the potential problems that come along with excess dryer lint. If your clothes take more than one cycle to dry, you see no lint on the lint screen, the clothes are very hot after drying or you find excess lint on the clothes after drying, you probably have a problem with accumulation of dryer lint in the dryer vent.
Use a dryer vent cleaning brush and clean the dryer vent, or hire a professional to clean the exhaust vent behind your dryer. If your dryer vent is clogged, it will create excess dust in the dryer and on the clothes. The excess lint can eventually catch on fire given the heat load of the dryer.

My dryer check lint screen light continues to blink and the dryer wont work even after cleaning lint screen

Airflow through the dryer vent is restricted. Blow through the filter opening with a reversed vaccum cleaned. Set it BLOW instead of **** usually by putting the hose on the exhaust end.

I want to know how to remove the lint trap (not just the screen but the entire assembly) from a Maytag Performa PYET344AZW front loading electric dryer. The lint screen will not even properly slide back...

Besides drying clothes, dryers also remove lint. This fine, fuzzy material can cause trouble because it blocks dryer lint traps, clogs vents, and fills blowers. Lint can also gather around and in the tracks of the drum rollers, or in and under the pulleys and the drive belt. The result is poor clothes drying or -- sometimes -- no drying. To avoid lint problems, clean out the dryer's lint trap system every time you use the dryer.
To clean the lint screen, remove it from the unit. The screen may be located near or under the door sill, or in the top of the dryer near the control panel. It can usually be removed by pulling it up and out of its housing. Remove the accumulated lint to clear the screen; then replace the screen.
The exhaust vent also collects lint. Vent maintenance involves cleaning the lint from a screen in the dryer's vent exhaust collar and/or at the end of the exhaust vent where it sticks out through a basement window or through an exterior wall. To clean the screen, remove the clamp that holds the vent to the collar, or back out the screws that hold the vent to the collar, or pull the vent straight off an extended collar. Clean the screen thoroughly and replace it in the vent assembly.
To clean the vent itself, use a vent-cleaning brush (available at hardware stores) to pull out any lint deposits. Also check the vent run to make sure that the vent piping or tubing isn't loose at the joints, or -- in the case of flexible plastic venting -- isn't sagging between hanging brackets. Breaks or sags cause undue strain on the dryer's blower system, and can cause drying problems. If the vent pipe or tubing has become clogged with lint, remove the lint by pushing a garden hose or a drain-and-trap auger through the vent to a convenient joint. Disassemble the joint to remove the debris. With this procedure, it isn't necessary to disassemble the entire vent to find the blockage. You can head off problems before they become too serious by providing routine maintenance for your dryer's door gasket, thermostat, timer, and other frequently used parts. Let's discuss how to service these important components in the next section.

Replace thermostat SDE305DAYW

To replace a thermostat, 1st unplug the unit. Next remove the bottom panel (2 5/16 screws) The part under where your lint screen goes is your is your lint duct. Next to it on the right and back just a little bit is your thermostat. Most people change a thermostat when there are other problems causing long dry times. Check your vent to make sure it's clean and flowing well. Make sure your vent hose behind the dryer is not kinked or bent. Clean your mositure sensors (the silver bars on the inside of your dryer drum) by rubbing them with the abrasive side of a sponge or a smooth sand paper to remove the clear build up from detergents and dryer sheets. Lastly check the area underneath your lint screen. Is there much build up? This can be mostly cleared just by using a long thin vaccume cleaner attachment.

Dryer takes forever

You have a clog somewhere in the venting. Anywhere between the lint screen and the outside of the house. Use a vaccum with a crevice tool to reach behind the lint screen. Also check the flaps on the outside of the house. You can also access the machine end of the vent pipe by removing the two Phillips screws on the angled panel just below the dryer door. If you feel you need to take apart the machine further to clean behind the lint screen, write back. It's very tricky, and will take some time, but I can walk you through it.
Good luck!
