The only solution to this problem is taking it to a repair shop, the light sensor is bad, it will cost you from 70 up to almost 200 dollars. depends on the place.
i had many RCA, canon , hitachi cameras with the same problem. is like you have a lens cover on it and still records with the cover on !! no image but sound..
i tried to get a new battery, on the units, reset settings , bumped on the floor a few times (not really) and nothing works, so i will have them taken to the repair shop.
