Furnaces must be vented EXACTLY as specified by the mfr or you WILL have problems - they spend a lot of time and money coming up with those specs. then design the furnace based on them.

Reducing the pipe diameter will improve scavenging and increase fuel economy at the expense of power large free flowing exhaust is important for max power. If you want more power the simple answer is use the bolt-on supercharger kit available as an after market option.

Hello, you can check the resistance of the motor by turning power off to the furnace and disconneting tje two wires which go to the motor. Take a meter and check the resistance, you should have resistance, if not the motor is bad. A rollout switch is a normally closed switch so you will chevk its resistance aswell, if the switch is open that signals a problem with the burner flames and you not read resistance. If the switch is closed and good you will read resistance.

Size of the exhaust vent pipe on a 75 gallon gas water heater? Is it the same size as on a 50 gallon water heater. Brand is GE, mfg 2008

I believe it takes 4" vent pipe up to 100,000 BTU
BTUs are shown on label side of tank.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Gas-venting-specs.pdf

Does new water heater have power vent? What does manual say?
Are you experiencing vent problem now? When you light a match and put it under vent stack, does smoke immediately get pulled upward? Are furnace and waster heater connected to same venting. Is there dark exhaust stain around vent hood? Does exhaust vent back out of vent hood when furnace kicks on? Are flue pipes stained with rust and white coating? Are vent pipes vertical, or are there level runs? Are the pipes made of galvanized and screwed together with 3 screws at each joint?

Frankly I would double-triple-check any internet answer dealing with possible CO poisoning at your home.
1) Ask local plumber for specific code in your area.
2) Call gas company
3) Post question on pro water heater forum:
http://www.thetankatwaterheaterrescue.com/forums/forum3/
4) Read whole manual for new water heater before buying.
5) Contact manufacturer.

Add a comment with your experience so others with same-similar problem can benefit.

Also take advantage of fixya expert assistance live.
For a price, expert works with you while you work on water heater or any do-it-yourself project.
Fixya is always less expensive than a service call.

Furnace will not shut off after the setting is reached. have changed thermostat. Temperature reading goes down on thermostat, furnace still runs. Model : Goodman furnace,gmh95/gch9

Check if your thermostat is set on 'o fan' setting.
If it is, trey to set it on 'Auto-fan' instead.
since it seem as if the heating does go off, only the fan may be running continuously.
this is possible if the thermostat is incorrectly set or installed.
good luck.

I HAVE A PENTAIR MASTERTEMP 400000 BTU NAT GAS UNIT, NEW ON NEW POOL. IT WONT LIGHT, THE PLUMBERS RAN 1 INCH LINE TO UNIT AND STEPPED IT DOWN TO 3/4 3 FEET FROM UNIT, THERE IS ALSO A 3/4 INCH REGULATOR,...

Generally speaking, too small a gas line will not inhibit the heater from lighting; it just won't burn efficiently and you will likely shorten overall heater life due to burner corrosion and soot buildup on the heat exchanger. Unless the total run of pipe to the heater is under 20' the pipe should have been 1-1/4" or larger, depending on what type of pipe was used.

That said, you should probably contact Pentair to arrange for a warranty service call to examine why the heater is not lighting. If the tech sites installation issues, be sure to get it in writing so you can go back to the plumbers for corrective action.

Contact Pentair. Select service providers and heaters and you should find someone local...
