Question about Bernina Sewing Machines
I have a Bernina Artista 730. Very few inches of sewing/embroidery the viewer states "Please check lower area of lint or stray thread. If bobbin is emply, please rewind bobbin." I have done this so many times and nothing different happens. I have taken it to a Bernina dealer twice and has not been fixed. Any suggestions? Thanks.
It is likely that your bobbin sensor is either in need of a clean or is faulty. When you drop the bobbin door, the bobbin thread sensor is a black plastic 'box' on the inside of the bobbin door and attached to it. Look carefully and you will see a small lens and an opening next to it - these are the optical parts of the sensor - make sure there's no fluff or dust obscuring the optical parts - give it a brush with your fluff brish and clean the lens very gently with a cotton-bud. Dont use any chemicals or cleaners on this part. If the problem remains after this, the probability is that the sensor is faulty or the sensor connector cable is damaged. The cable runs the full length within the free-arm cover and up to the top of the front panel and I've come across a couple of similar machines where the service person has replaced the free-arm cover poorly and the cable has become trapped in the bottom drive mechanism. If cleaning fails to work, get your machine checked-out by a competent Bernina engineer. In the meantime, you can disable the error message, but dont just use this as a total solution.

Hi, if you look in the bobbincase you will see a round spring. Sometimes this gets moved and it blocks the hole the sensor reads through. Clean inside the bobbincase with a q-tip. Also clean the sensor lens on the door with a q-tip. Also try rewinding a bobbin but don't start with the thread through a hole in the bobbin.
Hope this helps.
