Question about NEC NP100 Projector

1 Answer

NEC NP1000 powers up, strikes, then shuts down

I have an NEC NP1000 that will power up, strike the lamp, show an image for approx 30-45 seconds at which time the lamp shuts down and the machine powers off. The status light blinks red, 6 cycles, indicating a lamp problem but the lamp appears to be OK and has 35% life left (1313 hours used)

The expected lamp life is an average .. its not unusual to see early failures ... check the lamp connections to make sure they are secure ... check ventilation to make sure its not blocked by dust .. if there is a fan, make sure its working ..

I have a NEC VT470 Projector. The power light is steady orange and the status light blinks red 6 times.

steady orange means projector in standby mode
red light 6 times is a lamp error.
either the lamp is old and wont start up or the ballast power pcb is not working.
can you hear the sparking of the high voltage trying to strike the lamp.
if you can then the lamp may be dodgy.
can you borrow one to test it out

Hi I am having trouble with an LT180 DLP I'm getting a series of error messages culminating in the power light steady orange and the status light flashing a series of 6 flashes red. Inside I found that...

both lights flashing green indicate the projector lost power while it was running (didn't get to go through shutdown procedure). if the status light blinks 6 times, the lamp is failing to strike (one time means the cover is open, 2 times is a temperature issue, and 4 times is the fan). if it comes on and shuts off a short time later (less than 15 seconds), the ballast is going bad and needs replacing. if it didn't come on at all, it'd be either the ballast or the colorwheel. if the lamp light was red, it would be the lamp that needs replacing. nec won't sell parts to anyone who is not an authorized nec service center, so you'd need to contact one to get the part (although they may not sell it to you). but good luck!

The projector comes on, shows an image, then shuts off

power supply problem. the capacitors are probably drying out. it takes a boost of power to strike the lamp, and if the power supply can't handle it, it shuts down. replace the power supply.

Toshiba MT8U projector strikes lamp then goes out

it's the ballast or power supply. the lamp gets about 250vdc until it reaches a certain point, then it drops to about 20vdc, but the high strike runs through a different part of the ballast than the maintenance voltage.

this can sometimes indicate either an overheating issue, a lamp service life problem, or that the cover to the lamp housing has not been secured properly.

Lamp shuts down after startup

it is the power supply/ballast. when you first turn it on, the caps on the ps/bal charge then discharge when the lamp is to strike. if the caps are dried out (from excessive heat), it takes a while to build a charge. so the power drain from striking the lamp brings the ps/bal into shutdown. after you try again, the caps are now up to full power and everything is fine. but every time you unplug it, you'll have the same problem. replace the power supply and ballast.
