Question about Dell Latitude C840 24X CD-R W/ DVD Combo (SIDE Unit) - D1361 CD-ROM Drive

Dvd does not show in BIOS

Same as the other guy. The issue is not the media in the drive but that the drive will not show in the bios. Have tried another drive known to be good in the same laptop and it does not show in the bios either.

Hi there,

Try this, it should work; Click Start>Run>Regedit>
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
Delete All Value Data from UpperFilters and LowerFilters

But before trying the above, kindly restore the registry entries as back up.

Warm regards,

Screen displays low illumination.dvd drive not functioning.tv ok, av in ok.

Screen Display Issues:

Go to the BIOS. Once you power on the laptop immediately hold down the F2 key then BIOS will show up. Try to check in BIOS if the display has low illumination if yes then try connecting your laptop to an external monitor then toggle the display to the external monitor. If the display from the external monitor is fine then it means the LCD has issues and needs replacement. But before going into any LCD replacement try to update the BIOS version first.

DVD Issues:
Check first the DVD icon in My Computer window. If missing then kindly do this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318

Delete the upper and lower filters.
Uninstall the DVD device driver from device manager.
Restart the computer.
Check BIOS if ODD or DVD is present. If yes then F12 boot to DVD if failed replace DVD drive.
If the DVD not present in BIOS replace DVD.

I have an HP pavilion slimline s3600f desktop pc and the optical disk drive doesn't seem to be reading cd's or DVD's.

Check the Device Manager to make sure that the OS does not have any issues with the device. If there is an exclamation point ( ! ), then Windows has issue with it. If there is an " ! " then right-click on the device and select update driver.

If the drive shows in My Computer, right-click on the drive and select "eject" from the list. This will verify that the OS is talking to the device.

Check your BIOS settings to make sure that it appears in the BIOS and is not disabled.

Also, Microsoft recently released an update to disable Auto-Play on CD/DVD drives. If Auto-Play isn't working (due to this update), then put a music/movie cd/dvd into the drive and open Windows Media player and try to play the disc through there.

The drive may not be "broken" it just may be that auto-play has been turned off by Microsoft.

My Lifebook C2340 won't recognize it's own DVD-ROM. When I set the CD in the BIOS, it goes back to "None". It doesn't show up in My Computer. I've cleaned the contacts and tried another DVD. Still won't...

Does it show the device in the BIOS? If not then there could be a problem with the motherboard hardware. If it is not showing up in the BIOS then I would first verify that the power connector for the drive has voltage. Also verify that the slave/master jumpers are correct if the drive has any. You could also try downloading the BIOS update from Fujitsu and see if after updating the BIOS it brings the cd-rom drive detection back. If the BIOS is seeing the drive but Windows is not then the problem could be with the Windows drivers or installation. You could try going into the control panel for windows and use the "detect new hardware function" and see if Windows detects the drive.

Vt82c693a motherboard cant show ide hdd in award gui bios check

There may be a need to check the Jumper settings on the IDE drive, I would make sure the jumper is in the master setting and also to try to keep the cd rom connected also when you boot it up again.

Hi, my problem on dell inspiron 1526 is this: SYSTEM MODULAR BAY cannot be indentified.... problem is that CD/dvd drive show signs of work(when i turn my computer on Green led blinks, motor starts to rotate...

If the drive functions in another system the the issue is either the motherboard contacts or the controller. Flash the BIOS to the most current version and reset the BIOS defaults. If the drive still doesn't detect, then a motherboard replacement is likely in order.

Cannot get 2 IDE devices to show in bios.

Does the computer have two IDE channels? If so set the Maxtor HDD as master on the primary channel and the DVD drive as master on the secondary channel. Also right click on My Computer, left click on Manage and left click on Disk Management and see if the drives show up there. Also check the boot order in BIOS.

Easy Note W3332 BIOS shows NEC DVD + RW ND-6650A; does not play DVD's

You will have to go to the manufacturer of the dvd player itself. In your device manager, find the maker and model number of the dvd drive. Go to that company's site and look under support. There you can usually find the bios updates for every model. Flash the bios on the dvd drive. This is for the dvd drive, not the motherboard. This should fix any problem you have with the drive being recognized as what it actually is. Hopes this helps!
