Re: ibm hard disk not detected

Do u want to install the hard disk or do u want to setup raid? getting the hard drive to be detected has nothing to do with setting up RAID.

Hello when i install windows my sata hard dont detect. my main board is asus k8ux hard is western 1.0tera

You are probably installing windows XP
This requires that you install the textmode sata raid drivers as you install windows

Download the RAID driver and expand it to a floppy , CD or USB drive that the computer can recognise
(USB is better)

When you install windows, at the prompt for installing other drivers press F6 and let it find the raid drivers, if it finds them, it should then recognize your hard drive and you can install windows XP

Mother board masi km4am-l H.D.D. 1 TRA WES 64MB when installing win xp hard not detected by win setup. I updated bios but not worked. advance thanks

you should not update the bios...the issue is the hard disk is on sata ...and you need a raid driver installed to detect the ...either get into BIOS and under advanced features..look the place where the drives are detected..and select the hdd and look for a feature called AHCI ..and disable it ..and leave sata like ide..and save with f10 and restart ...after that the hdd will be seen ..
another way is to make a floppy disk with the raid driver on it (the one from the mothermoard drivers disk ) ..and when it ask you to press f6 for 3rd party software it ..and insert the floppy will pick up the raid driver and will go like a charm ..
if you do not have a floppy ..install a second cd drive ..and use a cd ..and after pressing f6 for 3rd party ..browse and point to the raid driver on the mobo driver cd ..

I have problem in asus A8V-vm motherboard in that hard disk is not detected in BIOS but Win-XP is working properly and when I tries to install new windows XP it shows an error that hard disk cannot be...

Asus A8V-VM Motherboard coming with SATA RAID option, thats why you could not see the detected HDD in system BIOS. But you can see the the detected HDD in RAID BIOS. You can enter to RAID BIOS that will pop up after system BIOS. If you are using old version of WinXP it will not detect the RAID controller of you motherboard. Thats why you cannot able to install WinXP. While you booting from WinXP CD press F6 key when the WinXP installer prompted for third party driver. Copy the RAID driver provider in driver CD to a Floppy Disk (INF file) and insert it, hit enter to continue the installation. If you are using WinXP Service pack 2 or higher you do not need this step it will automatically detect the HDD.

Check your AHCI (or ACHI, can't remember) settings in your BIOS. Turn them off, use "standard pata mode" even though you're using a SATA drive, and try again.

I am adding new 160 GB Sata HDD to my System and reformat new Hard disk but the time of installation hard disk not found. But check bios. they have already detected

I have had the same problem. The problem is that you need to load the raid driver / controller when installing the OS. When you are installing the O/S like in the first 60 seconds of the install you hit F6. You must go to asus and download the raid or controller driver. That should take care of your issue. I think moving the hard drive to another channel on the motherboard might be an easier fix.

If you're using a scsi card and connecting the hard drive to the card you need to have the scsi set-up floppy disk. When the blue screen starts during windows installation watch the bottom of the screen. It will tell you to press F6 key then to insert the floppy disk.
If you're using a sata drive connected directly to the motherboard (not in a raid configuration) you shouldn't need anything but the windows disk. The motherboard drivers and utilities disk should have the files to create the scsi install disk.

Asus K8VMX board didnot detect SATA hard disk

Sounds like you just need to install your SATA drivers. Look around for your cd/floppy disc of drivers if you have any. When you boot from the CD, It will ask you if you have any other drivers you would like to install, thats when you install them and it should read your SATA hard drive just fine. If you dont have your driver CD anymore search ASUS's website or just google (or similar search engine) your motherboard and look for drivers. Beware of some phony sites though. Good luck :)

The P5K motherboard has a four port vanilla ICH9. There
Is no RAID on the Intel, when the chip has only four ports?
So S1, S2, S3, S4 are not RAID.

In the P5K manual, the RAID function exists on the Jmicron
Controller. One drive connector is internal (SATA_E2, on the
Left of the motherboard picture in the manual), and one
Drive connector is external (F_ESATA on the back I/O area).
This is not convenient for building a RAID0. (The intent is
To allow making RAID1 backup disks.) You'll have to snake
The SATA cable back into the computer, if you hope to use
It with two internal SATA disks.

The manual has full instructions for setting up RAID on the
Jmicron JMB363. The manual says to set the Jmicron to RAID
Mode in the BIOS. Two disks must be connected, in order to
Be able to press <control-J> at the start of the BIOS, to
Enter the Jmicron RAID setup in the BIOS. At that point, you
Can declare an array in the BIOS setup.

Then, when Windows is installing from the Microsoft install CD,
You’ll need to press F6 and offer the Jmicron RAID driver.

Section 5.5 of the Asus manual, describes how to make
A RAID driver floppy. The application in the mother board cd is available for make drivers disk
