Atwood motorhome furnace will purge, ignite and

When I start my Atwood motorhome furnace it will purge, ignite and stay lit for about 6 seconds and then go out. This cycle will repeat 3 times and then just blow cold air. If I turn it off and then on again the cycle of 3 non successful starts will repeat. I've removed the circuit board and cleaned the contacts but the problem is still there. How do I get the nozzel out to inspect/clean it?

Atwood Excalibur 8500-III furnace parts can be found at:American RV ph.# 626-513-4777
an off balance or, wobbly fan can cause the screeching as can a combustion fan that has become loose on the motor shaft
there is a small notch in one of the fan blades a long 1/8" allen wrench goes into this and fits into an allen screw that locks the fan onto the motor shaft
there is a small hole just to the side of the combustion fan shroud this can be used to enter the allen screw on the fan's collar
if your furnace ignites then goes out
check your sail switch: it must be pressed and held down by the fan air before ignition can occur or, for the burner to continue to burn
the high limit switch should remain closed if it doesn't show continiuity with an ohm meter replace it.

Atwood 6gal self ignite wont stay lit

Are you sure of model number, as it doesn't indicate electronic ignition. That said, if you do have electronic ignition, there is a small thermal cut-out in power line (brown wire) to thermostat terminal. It is inside the clear plastic sleeve and is connected between power wire and thermostat. Pull it apart and remove that thermal cut out temporarily and just connect wire direct to thermostat terminal where other end came off. Now try it, if it ignites and runs good, replace that thermal cut out. If no better, get back to me. That thermal cut out is a safety device in case of flame up, so be sure to replace it once diagnosis confirms it is defective.

Hi i have a atwood 22.7 litre water heater model mpd93754 . IT ignites heats water, but wont shut off when it gets too hot. could you please help solve this problem . many thanks rod baker.

Gas control valve thermostat might be bad.
The copper cylinder located on back of gas control that sticks into water is the thermostat.
If thermostat is not reading correct temperature, then gas might stay lit.
Usually the gas control will sense overheated water and trip the ECO so no gas will flow to burner.
In any case, the gas control valve is replaced.

Burner lites but goes out after 2 or 3 min.

the white rodgers gas control needs to be replaced;
the way it works is: the thermocouple opens the pilot gas circuit and, holds it open
when it heats up by creating a magnetic field in the gas control then: when you turn
the knob on the gas control to "on" a valve inside the gas valve opens the main gas circuit and, electricity supplied by your RV keeps it open.
the main gas coil inside the gas valve is defective and, can not hold the main gas circuit to the burner open anymore.

Atwood water heater light doesnt stay on

That light in the switch should only be on momentarily while it is igniting, and then go out when everything is ok. If light stays on, it's to alert you that for some reason, the burner did not ignite, such as propane is off, or some other reason it didn't ignite. If the light stay out, then the burner should be working properly.

Wont Stay Lit

I would suggest that you replace the thermo-couple. It is a long, slender copper "wire" that runs from the control unit to inside of the unit. THe thermo couple's job is to regulate the pilot light and the lit flame as well.

They generally cost about $10 and take 10 minutes to replace. Some of them are reversed threaded (rights loosen, lefty tighty) and some of them are regular threaded (righty tighty, lefty loosen). TUrn off the gas supply at the meter or an external valve and remove the thermo couple by unthreading it at the control unit. Bring that with you to the hardware store (lowes or Homedepot) to make finding the correct one a simple task.

I hope this helps.
