Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

2 Answers

I've got a Canon Pixma 780 whose power supply apparently needs to be replaced. I ordered a service manual online that was supposed to come with disassembly instructions and a list of parts, but didn't contain that information. Where can I obtain this information? Thanks!

I'd like more basic information, like how I actually disassemble the printer to get at the innards....

  • kgutknecht Oct 07, 2009

I'm at the "slighty remove those cables" part, and don't see how to do this as I can't seem to get at them....

  • kgutknecht Oct 07, 2009

Oh, never mind. They just slipped out. Now I'm wondering how to disconnect the wires joining the two sections.

  • kgutknecht Oct 07, 2009

"some screws to remove...." At the front of the printer? Top? I assume I don't have to remove the screws holding the hinge assembly.

  • kgutknecht Oct 07, 2009

Do I access the power supply from the inside of the copier (from the top down) or by removing the back panel of the printer?

  • kgutknecht Oct 07, 2009

Do I have to completely remove the side panels? The back panel?

  • kgutknecht Oct 07, 2009

Well, it's all apparent once the printer is dismantled. Do know how/where to purchase a new power supply board if it's not just the fuse?

  • kgutknecht Oct 07, 2009

It's kind of hard getting the fuse out. Any tips to avoid wrecking things? Also, it seems the price of the power supply (about $80, with shipping) is more than half the cost of a new printer. Hardly seems worth it.

The power supply is a circuit board on which there is a port to which you connect the power cord of the printer. The power supply is a PC board which is located on the left side of the Sheet Feeder Assembly. . on the power supply board there is a small fuse if the fuse is blown then also there will be no power to the printer.many times its seen that whole board is good but only the fuse on the power supply board blows out.and the cost of fuse is not very much its just under $3.so first option you have to try is disassemble the printer and on the left side you will see one circuit board ,on that circuit board you will see the fuse .so first you just replace the fuse on the board.its easy to remove the old fuse and insert new fuse.then after replacing the fuse check out if you get power to the printer.but if there is no power still then its time to replace the power supply board.its not very hard to replace that board also.there are some cables/wires which you will have to insert in the main board of the printer.just before removing the old faulty power supply board mark where the cables are connected in the main board so while connecting the cables from new power supply board you dont get any problem.on the power supply board there are also some normal screws which you have to remove.so remove all the screws properly from top of the board and also connect the same screws on the new board properly. ----------------- this will help.please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.thanks.

the printer is fitted by screws and internal locks.to remove screws a normal screw driver is required.but to remove locks the special tool is required but a thin&strong knife also helps.first the scanner unit comes out.you have to lift the scanner unit.you can say the top of the printer the one which you lift to remove the cartridges.just lift it.underneath you will see some screws holding the unit.and on both the side there will be a plastic hinge that is holding the top.this plastic hinges are very weak .after the hinge is released the top gets loose but still the top is connected to base by some cables underneath.you will have to slightly remove those cables to release the top completely and once the top is released you are half done.there are some screws to remove after that and the sides of the printer are fitted by internal locks which are not seen you have to insert the thin knife and where the knife gets blocked there is a lock.also where there is a lock you will see a plastic of the printer mounted with small arrow.which is very small but visible.just check out properly.as the parts are very delicate so do it carefully and slowly.
    --------------
    thanks.keep updated.

No need to remove those screws.you are right.proceed with care and remember how you open it step by step so its easy for you to fix it back again.also circle the parts where you remove the screws from so that you dont miss any of them while fixing back.

please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.thanks.

yes you will have to remove all the panels to get access.just see that you dont harm the white data cables.remove them gently.
    thanks.rate it positively.

I need a manual for Canon MP620 PIXMA - how can I get one?? I've lost mine.

You should be able to find those online. Canon's website usually has a database of all their products where you can download drivers and manuals. For your printer specifically, try this link: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp620

Power is on to my Canon Pixma MP780, but no display

I got such problem on my MP 780 (grayed boxes on bottom LCD line, no function). It turned out to be missing 1.5V for CPU core. On revese (solder) side of mainboard i found point described as "1.5V". I've powered this from external supply (took about 2 amperes) for few seconds and MP is alive again (without external supply).
