Zenith 44in Rear proj. LCD making sounds

After muting everthing I noticed a sqeaking/chirping sound from the TV. The sound was coming from the TV not the speakers. It had been on for a while. Will heat cause it to do that? Never noticed it before.

At different times while the tv is on I have noticed that I will hear a sharp crackle and then the sound goes mute. I have to adjust the volume all the way up and the sound starts to come back up. It sounds an awful lot like the cold solder problem involved with the IR circuit which reads the signal comming from the remote.

Most common reason is shorted convergence chips. Goto the site www.TvRepairKits.com and get their "chirping set" repair kit.

Rainman, can`t really be of any great help on this one, both techs can be right, the chirp is exactly as you thought, the set is trying to come on but there is a short in the set and it`s shutting down because of the short, could be convergence, low voltage power supply, high voltage power supply, until a tech gets in there and starts un-loading circuits it`s impossible to say where the short is, gonna have to call someone out for this one, good luck with it, BMW Rider

Mine had the same problem. It turned out it was the power board that went out. The ic's might need to be replaced again, because they could get whacked out when the power board blows out.

When tv turned screen is blank and chirping sound comes from back

A chirping sound usually means that one of the secondary supplies has shorted, most likely the horizontal output transistor. The power supply "chirps", which is the sound it makes when it protects itself from drawing too much current. The set should be serviced by someone with experience in Philips projection TV'.

Chirping & no power

It sure does sound familiar! The churping is most likly the power supply starting up and detecting an overload condidtion and shutting down. Or the power supply is trying to start up and cant but keeps retrying to. Unless you know how to trouble shoot SMPS Please leave this one to the pros.In a case like this One or maybe twp boards will mosy likly need replaceing or repaired if the tech you call in is decent. Good Luck
