Usually called the "pullstart"...depending on what part failed, it can sometimes be fixed by taking it apart and freeing up the palls (parts that fling out and grab the outer bit to turn the motor). If the spring is broken, it can sometimes be shortened by a turn or two and still be used. If the rope is broken, a new rope can be fitted...hope this helps

Have a Honeywell 3000w portable generator and the cord (where you pull it) broke and have had a hard time finding it. Is there a substitute for it, if so, where can I purchase it? It is still functioning...

The pull cord is standard cord rope available at the hardware store. The pull start mechanism comes off the generator. the new rope has to be wound onto the spool so the coil spring can retract it. if you take it off and take it to a local hardware store they probably will charge a small fee to rewind it for you if needed.

I need to replace pull rope that broke, how do I do this?

You can buy abaca fiber or nylon rope of the same length and size if you can't get an original one. Use the original handle bar for pulling. Tie one end of the rope at the center of the bar handle. Thanks for asking FixYa Customer Support.

The coil rope broke I would like to know how i can repair it. Generator 5500 watt champion.

If I understand correctly, you have a pull-start generator.

The rope to the pull-start broke.

This happened to us out on the job one day.

Our equipment might be different than yours. Our pull-start assembly is held with 4 bolts. Simply remover those bolts and lift off the cover ... carefully. The rope is attached to something I will call a pulley. The rope wraps around the pulley several times.

Do not lift out the pulley that the rope attaches to >> or the spring that re-winds the rope will come un-sprung (at least it did on our machine). If the spring comes unwound, then you got another job, and have to put the spring back also. Your machine might be different.

Keep pulley in place. Remove rope. Get another rope with same diameter and length and put it in.

The rope broke on my lawn mower and I am trying to rewind the spring, but was advised to buy a complete starter assembly, I need to know how much one is and where can I get one. I bought my lawn mower from...

If your rope broke, there was no reason to take the spring out. The rope can be replaced just by taking the rewind housing off, turning pulley to get rest of old rope out, wind the pulley (and spring) the direction the rope would be pull it when starting. Then , when it's wound tight, back off to align the holes in pulley and cover. Hold it there, stick about an 8' piece of rope from the outside through the pulley and tie a knot. Hold the rope and let the spring pull the rope back into the starter. an tie handle back. Take your housing, and spring to a shop. They can re-install the spring and put on a rope a heck of a lot cheaper that buying that whole assembly.
