Blowing15ampbreaker

Do you mean tripping a 15 amp breaker?
Unlikely a breaker will blow.

If the breaker trips as soon as it is reset without any appliance being connected to that circuit there is a fault with the circuit. Damp or water ingress is common as is an attack by rodents, mice will be able to access cables easily and will attempt to make a meal out of anything.

If a breaker trips when an appliance is connected or switched on the fault is clearly in the appliance or possibly in the power cord.

How do I test for a short for my Magnavox TV

What happens when you turn on the TV? Any power lights? Does it come in and then trip out?
It may be a fault at the plugtop and not inside the TV.
To test this You will need a digital multimetre. Put it on the continuity setting; it will make a continuous beep when you touch the two probes together.
Start at the plugtop. Remove cover and put the two probes on two different cable connection points. Try all variations. If it beeps you have a short between two cables either on the plugtop end or at the TV. Try this and see if you can find the problem.

The input dvd screen says no signal and the DVD player doesn't seem to have any power.

If it is in warranty return it---parts for the DVD unit are not available--they would have to replace the entire DVD unit inside the set.

My kettle keeps blowing the circuit

If the fuse in the mains plug or MCB at the consumer unit / fuse box keeps tripping then there probably is a fault in the kettle element or switch. If the RCD is tripping (the safety device with the test button on it) then there is an electrical leak either due to a crack in the element or water has got into the wiring, switch or power cord of the kettle.
Allow the kettle to dry out in a warm place for a day. Also check it at another power outlet to eliminate any problem with the outlet you are using.

Hello,

It seems you may have an Electrical Insulation Break Down fault with your machine.
My suggestion would be to get a Registered Appliance Technician to test the internal circuit of the machine before attempting to switch on the appliance or rectify any fuses.
The appliance needs to be issued with a (PAT) test first to determine if the appliance is safe to touch when applying power to the machine so you dont electrocute your self.
Once the (PAT) test has been applyed then the technician can visually inspect the high voltage internal parts that could be the result of the insulation break down.
I strongly suggest if any kitchen appliance trips the main fuse for any reason I would recommend not trying to change any fuses as this second atempt to reboot the machine may have blown the machines 'Power Control Module'!

Tv turns it`s self off and on at random. It also changes from regular cable to dvd at random. If you turn it off when it is on cable, and then you turn it on, it will stay on cable for about 5 min, then...

this fault realy seems like possible dry solder joints in the power supply or high voltage area of the unit, the transients caused during a bad connection can easily change av channels etc, also check all scarts are fitted correctly at the rear as there is a 12 volt line on each scart input which if suffering from a loose scart plug or dodgy cable can switch tv functions.

How do you hook up the dvd player to the tv with a vcr hooked up to the tv

Leave the cable box powered on but disconnected from the TV or VCR. All other components should be disconnected and unplugged, giving clear and easy access to all connections. If components sit in an entertainment unit, make sure all A/V cables can reach the RF modulator and the cable from the modulator can easily reach the television.
  • Step 2 Hookup the first coaxial cable from cable box output, usually labeled "TV," "TV out" or "Out to TV" to the cable "In" on the VCR. Connect the second coaxial cable from the VCR's out to "TV" to the coaxial input on the RF Modulator.
  • Step 3 Connect the third coax cable from the coaxial cable "Out" jack on the RF Modulator to the coax cable "Input" on the television.
  • Step 4 Take one A/V cable, connect the red (right audio channel,) white (left audio channel) and yellow (video) from DVD player's "Output," to the corresponding DVD "inputs" on the RF Modulator. Place components as desired but still disconnected from power. Plug in all power cables including the RF Modulator's into the surge protected outlet strip.
  • Step 5 Make sure the Channel select switch usually found on the back of the VCR and the Channel select switch on the RF Modulator are both set to Channel 3. This channel is used on the television to view your components.
  • Step 6 Turn on the power strip and turn on the TV. Cable reception should come on as usual. Set the TV to Channel 3 and turn on the VCR. With VCR on test it by playing a video tape. The RF Modulator should sense the signal and automatically switch to "VCR."
  • Step 7 Switch off the VCR and with the television still on channel 3, turn on the DVD player. As the RF Modulator senses the DVD player signal and switches to DVD, its welcome screen should be seen on the television. Play a DVD to test and once you're done with the DVD turn it off and the cable should come back on.

DVD input channel reads "no signal" when I try to play a DVD

First I would run a dvd cleaner in unit! Second you could take tv apart and look to see if signal cable is loose. the power wire seem fine as it powers up, and accepts an eject dvd.

    Power Consumption

If you have a amp probe you can make a test cord by splitting a standard household extension cord. you will want to make sure not to expose any wire in this process then put the probe around one of the wires for testing the one that is attached to the small tab on the cord or the one that gives you a reading.

to answer your question the maximum power usage would be 150 watts with the setup you described. I would guess this would be less depending on the brightness setting of your tv you use ie. super bright more power less bright less power.

on another note if you are concerned with power usage. there are whole house wattmeters available that clamp on the outside of your homes meter outside. it reads the wheel or digital signal the one I bought is wireless and the reciever is programable with your utilities rate to let you know how much money per hour your spending and even has a running total and peak usage stats date time and temp. outside.

    Earth fault

the wiring loom from the motor to the control board is cable-tied too tight against the motor. this causes the wiring insulation to weaken and short against the motor causing the constant earth fault./ cut the cable ties on the motor loom and refit new ones BUT not too tight
