If you cant turn it on then you will probably have to reboot you will need to have your restore disk ready, and to get it going you will have to reset bios, unplug the computer then remove the battery from the mother board for a few minutes, certain viruses can damage the hard drive its rare but it can happen, put the battery in and plug it in, then you will have to turn it on and enter bios to turn off some things to aid your reboot you have to push whichever F1, or F8 or which one gets you to bios. first when it prompts you with a: / try typing in scndsk/all this will check you drive and program to see if its fixable, if it prompts as bad than use fdisk to restore i hope you have a floppy set up as a start up disk it will have fdisk on it. once its clear put in your restore disk and shut off comp then start up and follow prompts.

Prevent a virus attack no your computer through USB pen drive or Hard drive

There are lots of viruses available that gets distributed with the help of USB per drives or portable hard drives.

So here is a useful tip which can be kept handy to prevent them from infecting your System.

Do not double click to open a removable drive or the portable hard drive or pen drive. Always right click and select explore from my computer. This is because, the virus would have created Autorun scripts that will get executed when double clicked. The scripts infects your computer with the same virus.

Once the removable drive is opened by selecting explorer, Navigate to Tools > Folder Options > Views. Find the radio button to show hidden files and folders. and also uncheck the option "Hide extensions for known file types"

Now of you find some new unknown files in your removable disk, try deleting them permanently by pressing shift+DEL. If it fails, copy required files from your device and then format the drive.

Hopes this tip helps someone.

I have 9100 dell desktop. I was having problems with comupter and had a virus scan going and then computer rebooted and now I am unable to do anything. Not in safe mode or anything. It says it can't find...

Trying using a boot disk to see if your data is still there. I've seen this happen before and the virus had infected several of the files required for the computer to boot. When the virus scanner cleaned the files and the computer rebooted, the system files were gone.
What ever you do, do not reformat the hard drive or use a system restore disk until you are sure that you have no data that is recoverable on the drive.

My computer freezes and/or shuts down whenever it wants to.

Sounds like you may have a virus, or your hard drive is failing? Get Combofix, SPFix Hijackthis and run them... in that order, work through them. If this doesn't help, well before actually scan your hard drive for errors, Defragment, run Disk Cleanup. Check you have lots of hard drive space too. More than 15% of total.
Using Start>>Run>> Msconfig go to startup tab and disable all and then reboot re-enable one by one rebooting in between & see if that helps.

My Gateway GT4010 PC keeps rebooting itself before

Try replacing the hard drive cable. If that doesn't fix the problem, then you may have bad RAM, bad motherboard or a bad power supply. Sounds like a hardware issue and not software. try booting your computer in safe mode since it doesn't load all the device drivers. If it still reboots then you'll have to keep swapping parts and booting up the computer to isolate the problem.

If you have access to a second computer you can try installing the hard drive on it as a slave and then do a full virus scan. After this completes and hopefully removes all the virus's you might be able to put the drive back into the original computer and do a windows repair from the windows XP CD. If not then you would need to transfer the data off the old drive and reinstall windows from Scratch. I would recommend doing it that way if possible as it gives a better chance of not being reinfected by something on the drive.

Keeps on rebooting at startup

It's either you have a corrupted system boot file on the hard drive or infected with some virus. Try to verify that the PC will not reboot itself in BIOS. If so, memory is most likely the cause.
Burn a CD "HDD Regenerator 1.51" and boot from it, scan all the hard drive and it will attempt to recover all the bad sectors.
If HDD Regenerator finds nothing, then it's very likely Virus related. Take the harddisk out, connect it via external case and Scan with Antivirus on another system. If nothing found, backup your data and rebuild your PC (Reinstall Windows)

Computer keeps rebooting every 30 seconds. Whats Wrong?

Your computer could be infected. Press F8 a couple of times when you first turn on your computer when you see the HP logo. You will get whats called an advanced startup menu. Choose Last Known Good Configuration. If windows loads successfully, scan your computer with Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware programs to remove infections. If windows does not load, do the above again but this time choose Disable Automatic Restart. By choosing Disable Automatic Restart the system will give you a blue screen. Write down that information from the blue screen and post it back on here.
