Thanks for your advice- appreciated. My camcorder does have a memory stick and a S video port as well as DV in-out port. Would this be of any help. If not, could yuo forward me more details of the hardware device as I would like to purchase.

Thanks again for your help and intrest. I am an anestesiologist and have recently emigrated from South-Africa to Canada. Sending videos back home would be great.

You need some hardware to transfer the tape digitally to your computer. I use a cheap device from Best buy that ran around twenty bucks. It has software with it and everything. Basically its a device that has RCA ports and an S-Video port on one side and connect to the computer through USB. Its kinda a headache cause you have to play the Digital 8 tape through the hardware on to the computer and save it as a MPEG. Then you can put it on a flashdrive or email it to people. Much easier just to get a digital video camera if you have the funds.

    Sure,

I believe the hardware I use is from a company called Sonic...Digital Video Creator. If you go to an electronics store like Best Buy and tell them what you want to do, they will know what you need. They will have various price ranges on the equipment...some capable of doing HD video editing and so forth, but you probably dont need any of that. It shouldnt cost more than 30-40 dollars...if that. I am not sure how that works if your camera has a video stick...but if the feed you want to send through email is currently on a Digital 8 tape, you will need the Digital Video Creator or other like device to convert it. Your camera should have cords and the Digital Video Creator may come with them as well, but I would recommend using the DV port on the camera as the S-Video only carries video and no sound. If you use S-Video only, you can capture the video, but you will not have any sound with it. Let me know if you need anymore help when you get the equipment.

Which memory card required for the DCR TRV340E

Hi George - Your camera uses proprietary Sony Memory Sticks. Below is a chart of the exact sticks supported. Being an older device it is not capable of using the newer larger memory cards.

Sony Handycam Dig 8 doesn't recognize tape when trying to record

If it has memory stick, Make sure your memory stick is in. Your memory stick is full. Delete the unwanted pictures from the memory stick or use a differnt biger memory stick.

I looked in the manual. It seems your camcorder does not have a slot for memory stick. But you may still save pictures on the tape. Here is the link to download the manual

Please read Page 40 "recording picture on the tape".

Hmmm, for recording videos you just have to go to the movie mode and press the button
Photographies doesn't seem proper because of all the black dots on the LCD screen, once on the computer, they're good.
And maybe you can't record videos cuz you don't have a memory stick and you're trying to record on 640 MP fine quality. For that you have to get more than 128 mb on your memory stick.
