We have never used salt, and rarely used the rinse aid. What happened was that it got turned off 3/4 through a cycle. When I turned it back on all three red indicator lights on the front remain lit but, the timer does not turn.

I have owned this dishwasher for 3 years now and have never used salt and have rarely used rinse agent, I don't believe it has anything to do with my problem. When you set the wash cycle you want (pots, glasses, fast rinse etc.) and click it to start, the knob does not move though the cycles and remains in the exact same position.

My dishwasher has stopped working. It is Model # DDW1805W-1, a 18" wide Danby portable that connects to the kitchen sink. It has only one control, that is the the circular timer that you can set to the cycle you want (pots and pans, just glasses, etc.)There is also two buttons you can press. One says "Rapid" the other says "Plus". We set the timer to a regular wash and started the machine. About half way through we opened the door and stopped the machine. When we went to restart, all three indicator lights (On, Rapid, Plus)came on and the timer would not cycle through the wash, it just stays in the same position. Any ideas?

I looked a little closer and I see that the timer starts and moves about 1/8 of an inch and stops. It would make sense that the timer is broke but I don't understand why the indicator lights wouldall come on. Could a short in the timer do this?

  • skipjoe Oct 14, 2009

Could you help me understand how the ohmmeter would indicated a problem, I have never used it before?

  • skipjoe Oct 14, 2009

I just want to clarify that the 3 indicator lights are not flashing, they just stay on. Do you still believe it is the timer with the lights on and not flashing?

Thank you for your excellent reply. I am very happy I found this web site. I liked "Localwonders'" specific answer and will purchase a new timer from Danby.

HI. Any time your timer has stopped spinning, this will signal a very serious fault within the timer motor mechanism. In this case, the timer must be replaced asap. The timer is the principal initiator, and it directs power to all corresponding components during the selected cycle. NOTE-(The Illuminated lights are basically signaling that there is a problem with the main initiator, which is the Timer module). Concerning the ohm meter. The ohm meter is used to test for resistance. This is a normal reaction that will occur during the shifting of the AC currents during the wash cycle. The timer will adjust, or regulated the resistance level of the current several times during the wash, to control motor speed in the circulation motor, and drain pump as well. It , also, regulates the element functions as well.

Timer is bad or the control board is faulty. It will have to be tested with an ohmmeter

The timers very commonly wear out. that is most common cause. you can test with an ohmmeter.

Check first the timer, inspect for physical damages or contacts that may need cleaning. See if the linkages are ok. Otherwise it may need re-attachment or may need replacing. Other than that it could be a bad board. You may refer to the link below for the parts you require.

Please check that you have filled the rinse aid and salt dispenser with the appropriate chemicals.
If you cannot figure out how to refill the chemicals, I can provide you instructions.
If this does not help, please state what happened when your dishwasher stopped working.

The timer is a mechanical device, do you mean it is stuck? Or, it springs back when rotated?
As I stated before, try filling it with the salt and rinse aid; the lights should go off after filling.
If filling does not help, manual inspection by a technician would be required before giving any true answer. Do you want contact number of the repair technician?

Door switch is most likely the problem The door switch is important because, if it's defective, the dishwasher won't work at all. To reach it, you need to remove the control panel cover, or sometimes the interior liner of the door. If it's defective, you need to completely replace it. Wiring Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dishwasher, burns and breaks the connection. If that's the problem, the wires must be repaired/replaced as necessary. If that's not the problem, check the wiring to the door switch, the wiring between the door and the lower part of the dishwasher, and the wiring to the timer. Repair any broken, burned, brittle, or defective wiring, using the proper appliance-grade wire and connectors. Timer or selector switch Although it's uncommon, the timer or the selector

I want to light the pilot but do not know how what is the red button for and do you turn on the gas to light pilot?

nope - don't turn on gas at the Range's front control panel to light the pilot lite.
but you do need to turn on the gas to the kitchen range at the plumbers black pipe valve to the Range.

To light the pilot light:
(1) depress the red button (that feeds the gas to the pilot light orifice)
(2) using lighter/match/lit rolled-up newspaper, etc, light the tiny amount of gas coming from orifice
(3) continue to hold dow red button for 1 or 1.5 minutes (this allows heat to bend the bi-metal contact)
(4) after 1-1.5 minutes with a lit pilot light, release the red button - the pilot should remain lit
(5) you're done lighting the pilot lite - turn on the oven (or broiler).

red light is stands for hardware boot and the green one is stands for system boot and disc boot. when red light remains solid it means your system is in 0% cpu usage and nothing doing, stop working

is anything in the way of the arm? Sometimes you can't see an item sticking down too low ... interfering with the spinning.

Water not flowing into Danby 18"

Okay, this might seem crazy, but it worked. I spent the last 2 days trying to contact Danby customer service to no avail, so I came back here to look for solutions. Found two:
(1) Someone said to open the little rubber cover under the front right of the machine...I couldn't find such a cover.
(2) Someone said to pull off the front plastic panel...mine doesn't seem to be removeable.
So! I turned my Danby DDW1805 upside-down (!) to see if I could locate the aforementioned rubber cover, and a bunch of water drained out of the machine. This is what both solutions above said I wanted to happen, so I flipped it back right-side up and hooked it back onto my faucet.
Golden. Works perfectly again.

To select countdown time, use the TRK (SEARCH?TUNE) / buttons to select the correct time. Press and hold to fast forward or fast reverse countdown time. 3. Press TIMER ON/OFF again to activate the timer. The unit will beep twice to indicate countdown has started. The red TIMER icon will remain lit during countdown. 4.
