Question about Mitsubishi WD-52525 52" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Low pitched grinding or groaning noise

I have a three year old Mitsubishi WD-52525. I loved the t.v. at first but now I have no picture and when I turn on the set it I hear a low pitched groan that also sound like something is vibrating or perhaps a fan blade is running against something. I suspect I may not have a picture because a lamp went out due to this other problem. Can you suggest the repair?

Thanks

Dan

Having what I believe to be the same problem.  Replaced the lamp and everything looks fine but still no picture.  The screen is totally black and when I turn the TV on it makes a faint popping sound when I turn the volume up.  Never ran in to this type of problem and would love some help.

Dan i recently had one of these in the shop and discovered a problems with blown capicitors in power supply.. however the low pitch groan indicates a fan or what is known as a color wheel. if this motorized part does not reach speed the lamp will not fire. replaceing the color wheel is not an easy task.

Our Mitsubishi WD 52525 goes to blue screen and shuts off.

It sounds like you TV is overheating and the video is suffering and the lamp is overheating as well. Also, if your TV is over 2-3 years old, the mirrors (behind and below the big front screen) desperately need to be cleaned. Clean all filters and fans as well. (Look on side and behind the unit). Is the TV in a "hot" environment and/or dirty environment? DLP TV's are NOT sealed units. They need to be cleaned every few years to work well to have a good, clear, bright picture.

Error message: check connections or power-the connections for RGBHV or YPrPb may be invalid. The screen is a two tone blue and is flashing.

DO NOT do anything to your Mitsubishi WD-52525 until you read this forum overseen by a Mitsubishi certified repair technician: http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/mitsubishi/11703-problem-mitsubishi-wd-52525-scrambled-picture-no-picture-2.html . There has been a worldwide problem in computers and TVs over the past several years with faulty electrolytic capacitors (from Taiwan) that decay, dry out, swell and die. The power supply is often the first component to go bad, but other systems also degrade over time. As the forum explains , this problem is widespread in these sets causing multiple types of display problems after several years of use. Mitsubishi is aware of the problem and will cover most of the cost of repairing the chassis, even years out of warranty, but apparently ONLY if you get an estimate from a Mitsubishi certified repair station and contact their customer support BEFORE doing any work on the set. I just followed the recommended procedure on that forum and Mitsubishi is covering half the cost of my $700+ repair when my 3+ year-old set recently died and showed only a blue screen. I'm not sure if this is your problem, but it might be.

You would need the service manual for that adjustment. It is outlined in the service manual on how to adjust the tilt. It is a mechanical adjustment. You can get the service manual emailed to you instantly after purchase at this link.
