If you are used to using an atlas or other map, you probablyalready know that new maps are issued each year because of changes on theroads. The same thing applies to the maps on GPS units. This means that if youhave a GPS unit, you need to update your GPS software regularly to make surethat you have the latest information. Each GPS manufacturer makes softwareupgrades available for GPS unit owners.
Here are tools and instruction below
USB cable (as tool)
1 Visit the website forthe manufacturer of your GPS unit, such as Garmin or Magellan.
2 Go to the"Support" section of the site and then the "Downloads"area. This is where the latest upgrades are available for download.
3 Log in if you already havean account or key in the serial number of your GPS unit. Typically you get onefree upgrade on your unit, which is tracked by the serial number, which is whyyou have to enter it or have an account.
4 View the latest softwareupdates once you are logged in or have entered in the serial number. If you areeligible for the free upgrade, you will see it listed with no cost. If not, youwill see a price listed by the upgrade. Prices vary by manufacturer andupgrade, but average around $80 as of 2010.
5 Download the upgrade to yourcomputer or order the upgrade disk. According to CC Electronics & Gadgets, there is no difference between the two upgrade files. If you want to do animmediate update to the unit, you should download the upgrade instead of waitingfor the disk to arrive by mail.
6 Connect your GPS unit toyour computer with the USB cable that came packaged with it. When you do, theGPS update software will launch on your computer. If you have never installedthe GPS software onto your computer, you will need to use the disk that camewith the unit to install it so that it will launch for you.
7 Confirm that you want tosync the unit with the upgrade file that you download, or on the disk if youare using a disk. This will install the upgrade to your GPS unit. When itcompletes, you will get a message on your screen letting you know that it isdone. You can now disconnect the GPS from the computer.
I had exact same 'Magellan 5045 frozen' problem. Here is how I fixed it. Go to www.magellangps.com/contentmanager. Download and install Magellan Content Manager. Plug in your GPS. If content manager does not activate automatically, start it manually, like any other windows program or by right clicking on its icon. You will be asked to register your device and its serial number, etc. After registering, if Content Manager fails to take you directly to the download location for your device, along the top of the Magellan web pages you will see a set of tabs, one of those is 'Support'. This is a pull-down menu. Select Manuals and Software update. This then takes you to their 'Support' web page. On the support web page, click on the 'Manuals and Software Downloads' button. This will take you to a page where you will be asked to select from four Download Categories. For the roadmate 5045 and similar gps intended to be used in an auto, select 'Magellan Vehicle Navigation'. This will take you to another page where you will have to select from three product series. For the 5045 series, select 'Roadmate Series'. This is another pulldown where you will have to select your product number, e.g., Roadmate 5045. This will finally take you to a page where you can select software and map updates. You will have to connect your Roadmate gps to your computer via USB and you will have to register. It is confusing because you will get incorrect and irrelevant statements like your device failed to register. It is somewhat quirky but if you follow the instructions and you have a wideband cable or FIOS internet connection, the upgrade to the software and the maps takes about 30 minutes. Do unplug your RoadMate from the USB unless asked to do so by the Content Manager program. After the software and maps update, the Roadmate 5045 worked like better than new for me.
Your best bet is to contact Magellan directly. Their website is not the easiest place I've ever navigated. I did not see a specific listing for the Roadmate 2000, but when I queried them about upgrades for your unit, the response was Roadmate 2000/2200T. Manuals are available, but again nothing was noted about supporting the 2000. I've provided their phone # is below. Good luck.
i use to own a 700, i advise you to get the new magellan mastreo 4000 or higher,i did my research and the magellan700 roadmate is no longer being serviced.that is what the magellan website has had showed and someone on here also has said it.i own now a mastreo 4000 so far so good no problems.
