This is most likely caused by faulty gas valve coils. The electrical coils are right above the gas valves and when energized, these solenoids open the gas valves to permit gas flow. A symptom of bad solenoids is a "cycling" condition such as you have described. It is recommended that if any solenoids are suspected of being faulty that they both (all) be replaced at the same time. They will most likely come as a set. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Igniter comes on will not let the gas in. The gas burner does not come on Maytag model dg882s

Hello,
Your have one of two problem causing the gas to not come on on your dryer.
1) the flame sensor is bad...if the igniter comes on and stays on and doesn't go off...usually within 1 minute the flame sensor isn't working as its supposed to
2) the coils on the gas valve could be the problem...if the igniter does indeed go off within 1 minutes and as soon as the igniter goes off if their is no flame the coils on the gas valve is what would need to be replaced
here is what each part looks like
FLAME SENSOR

The igniter comes on, lights the flame but the flame only stays on for about 5 seconds and then the flame shuts off. About 1 minute or two later this cycle repeats itself.

There's a heat sensor that's in the path of the flame. It's supposed to detect when the flame is lit properly so you don't fill your house with unburned gas.

I'd bet that sensor has gone south, or maybe the wire going to it.

What brand/model is it? A diagram and parts listing might come in handy.

80 series kenmore gas dryer. Won't dry clothes. Igniter glows, gas valve opens, flame lights. Stays on for about 45 seconds then flame shuts off. About 1 minute later it lights again but it doesn't stay on...

Did you get a solution yet? - our dryer is doing the same exact thing....last time it was not lighting at all and we found out it was the thermal fuse - very cheap fix...this time the symptoms are exactly as you described.
