Vista won't recognize usb hard drive

I am running Vista 64 bit and it won't install a driver for my usb hard drive or usb thumb drive. Shouldn't these devices be installed with the normal usb driver?

yes that is a driver issue, you need to install the motherboard cd, all those with question marks are not functioning well if you will install these drivers you will soon experiencing the slow down of your pc upon boot up and sometimes it will hang. since your motherboard is an asus you may download the drivers to asus if you don't have the motherboard cd

Run device manager and keep it running during the installation of drivers. It will take a bunch of drivers, but it will work and it will stop once it has all the drivers installed.

SOURCE: System freeze

The issue was resolved by uninstalling SP3. I uninstalled SP3 and the USB PCI card and rebooted. When SP2 reinstalled the device it installed the corect driver (5.1.2600.2180) and everything is now functional. Have no idea why the correct driver was not in XP SP3.

64 bit driver promise ultra

There is no official Window 7 driver for the Promise Technology Ultra 133 TX2, but you can use the Vista driver. It should also work for both the Ultra 66 and the Ultra 100 cards.
I found the Vista driver at:
The file name is: Ultra133 TX2 windows logo driver.rar
This file is compressed in the rar format. I decompressed it using 7-Zip. Folder amd64 contains the 64 bit driver. The amd64 driver worked even though my mother board has an Intel CPU and chip set.

you could try this although for xp its an update

I have transfered a LSI20160 SCSI card to my new 64-bit Windows 7 PC, but I cannot find a proper driver for the card.

I'm assuming its a driver issue.
The installation cannot proceed. Can the Vista Driver be used? Or do I need a Windows 7 specific SCSI driver?
If the Vista SCSI driver can be used how does one use the Vista driver with a "Clean" install?

EASYCAP DC60 USB 2.0 Video Audio Capture Adapter. I bought one of these about one week ago and I have still not been able to capture any data from my TV, set-top box (and that is another story altogether!)...

The problem is the device is not compatable with a 64 bit system; only 32 bit. The advertising that it's Vista compatible is extremely misleading. See the Amazon site customer reviews of this product for a greater explanation. I suggest you return it if you can.

Adaptec 29160n vista support issue

vista has a major issue with allowing even the admin to move and transfer files and folders.
I have run across a fix that helped me gain more control, but you probable need to get drivers for Vista from the scsi controler card manufacturer.
and for the drives.
Vista is a terribly restrictive OS.
WARNING: please do not do this if you can't reverse it on your own if needed. Editing your registry can be risky so use extreme caution.

My Seagate Free Agent Classic external hard drive won't work

Have you tried a different USB port? Some USB chipsets are prone to frying if you use the front accessible ports. Also, try the drive on another computer.

re-booting. still doesn't see the drive.
