Question about Dell Studio XPS 435 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Is there a download limitation using Windows Vista?

I'm using Windows Vista on a New Dell XPS 435 desktop PC.
I noticed that I can only download 8 videos (about 30-45 minutes each) at a time. On my older laptop (about 8 years old) using windows XP, I am able to download up to 15 videos at one time. I am using cable modem from Time warner cable.

I've turned off all the firewall and antivirus programs on my desktop, but I am still having a limit.

Is there anyway that I can get my PC to start downloading more videos at the same time? Is there some kind of block or limitations that one has with downloading using Vista?

Thanks.

First of all turn your antivirus and firewall back on at once, as this is not the cause! i think this may be some cable modem<->vista incompatibility

How to check if I have an internal microphone on my dell Studio XPS 435 with windows 7?

Find the speaker icon in the task bar. Usually lower right hand side near the time and date location. Right click on it and select recording device. In the window that opens you should see a microphone icon and be able to talk and see the level change on the bar graph. If the mic is there but no audio moves I'd go ahead and double click the microphone icon and another window tab will open up. Look at all the sitting in those tabs for anything that maybe muting the mic.

Ever since upgrading to Internet Explorer 8, I find that I cannot print emails, open up many attachments, and retrieve other information. For example, if I click on a link, I get the following message:...

Ther are known conflicts with Vista and IE8 - particularly with Vista 64-bit.

I would suggest uninstalling IE8 and reinstalling IE7 or using an alternative browser such as "slimbrowser" (excellent program) or similar.

IE8 can be uninstall by using Add or Remove Programs module in Windows XP, but in Windows Vista, Windows Internet Explorer 8 is not considered to be a ‘program’. Instead, IE8 is categorizing as an ‘update’. Thus, users will not be able to find Windows Internet Explorer 8 in “Programs and Features” of Windows Vista.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, go to Control Panel, and click on Uninstall Programs link or Programs and Features icon. Then on Tasks pane on the left, click on View installed updates link. Locate and select Windows Internet Explorer 8 in the list of installed updates, and then click on Uninstall button. Click on Yes when asked that are you sure want to uninstall the update.

If there is no option of IE8 been found on “Programs and Features” or “Add or Remove Programs” dialog box, or uninstallation of Internet Explorer 8 is unclean (causing error message such as setup cannot continue because a more recent version of Internet Explorer has been detected on this computer when trying to downgrade to IE7), try to manually run the spuninst.exe.
To do so, go to C:\WINDOWS\ie8\spuninst\ folder (your drive letter may be different), and run spuninst.exe.

Restart the computer after uninstallation completed.

Hope that helps :)

You can always call Microsoft and explain your situation. My computer did not do that as well so i called their technical support center and they sent me a new copy of Vista, they didn't include the activation key but i only needed the back up CD.

Task bar is missing on bottom of screen after pc wakes up.

mine does this with windows 7, right click on desktop and open 'personalize' then open 'taskbar and start menu'
From here choose to move your taskbar location to the side of the screen and click apply. it should return, then just tell it to go back to the bottom.
