If you have the original disc you can call your local MS branch and explain you have lost your activatin key.

They will ask a few questions then supply you the new key for free.

If this helps you please vote kindly

Hi
Your HDD is maybe damaged and you won't be abble to install a new os on it .
Otherwise , if you really can't format it , try extracting it from your desktop and connecting it to a healthy computer .
Reinstall it back in your desktop afterwards and launch the W XP install disc .

Do you have a XP licens on your computer? or under your laptop?, try to change the key to that one. you can also try to call microsoft from the number you find when you trying to activate the windows. Think they can help you.
If not you have been given a nonlegal copy of windows xp. and you need to find the store to ask them give you a other key or copy of windows xp. sure you dont find the company on the Internet?
Other way is to crack the licens you find how to do it if you search on google.

Activate xphome

If I'm reading this correctly, this copy of Windows was installed on your old laptop (which is now not working) and you decided to get a new one and are trying to load the same copy of Windows onto your new laptop.

An OEM version of Microsoft Windows can only be installed on one computer. Once you installed that copy of XP onto one computer, the license was permanently tied to that computer and cannot be transferred. This is the difference between OEM and retail versions of Windows. Retail versions can be transferred from computer to computer (as long as only one computer has the software installed at a time); OEM versions cannot be transferred from computer to computer. Even if you were to get through over the phone, Microsoft will not activate your system.

If you still want to pursue it, these are the phone numbers for the Phillipines, according to the records I have:
+653248098 toll number
0080024681668 free number
Chances are you have tried them already, but I posted them in case they're different from the ones you have. You can always choose a different country and dial their phone number. Sure, it'll be a long distance call, but you'll still be able to get through.

Samsung 200gb hdd

When u bought a new hdd, it shud not have any partition on it. but in ur case, I assume u have formatted it to ntfs but no operating system is installed in it.

If u want to make the new hdd as slave and have another old hdd as primary, that have already an operating system installed in it, then the problem shud be hdd boot priority in bios. Enter ur bios and check for hdd boot priority and put the old hdd to the top most order, then restart. this shud fix the problem.

If u installed OS in ur new hdd (win xp),
1) ntldr or ntdetect.com is missing on root dir. (c:\). If u have another computer that works and have xp installed, just put this new hdd along with the current hdd and boot to windows. Copy ntldr and ntdetect.com to your new hdd. Or another way is just repair using windows xp boot cd.
2)the windows partition is not set 'active'. to set active, boot into winxp setup and press 'r'. this will lead to recovery console. type ur passwrod for admin (def=none). use diskpart command to set active. for easy way, put the new hdd to another computer. boot to windows. rightclick my computer, choose manage. on left pane select disk manager. rightclick on ur partition, then set active.

Hope this help

Windows XP OEM OS

Yes, you have to purchase a new copy of Windows XP... Or alternatively you can try a freeware operating system such as UBUNTU. It does basically the same stuff your Windows did, just with a little more flair! http://www.ubuntu.com/
