hi. you have problem in lens unit and the weird noise come from to focus gear.maybe you go to the beach or dusty place thats why the said dust or sand goes into lens gear. If you can open and try to clean its better but if not bring to service center and request for cleaning and adjustment.
The s220 seems to be very susceptible to lens errors, usually associated with the lens barrel being unaligned. It only takes the slightest bump/drop in many cases. I had the opposite problem, my lens would not full extend. It would immediately retract and turn back off. If you take a can of compressed air and blow it out as you cycle it on/off. It should clear whatever is preventing it from closing.
