  1. 1 Determine what kind of inputs your TV has. Many sets have the HDMI, DVI or even VGA inputs common on most newer PCs. If you have an older TV with only an analog signal, you will have to get a video card that supports your TV's connection. To determine what kind you need, take a look at the audio/video inputs on the side of your TV. S-video is circular with a bunch of pins; composite video is yellow; and component video is red, green and blue.
  2. Step 2 Find out what kind of video output you have on your computer by looking at your video card. DVI is pretty standard on most computers manufactured in the last four years. Multimedia PCs will have DVI and HDMI. Of course, if you swapped out your video card to accommodate an older TV, your machine will not have either of these connections any longer, but will instead have the one that matches your TV.
  3. Step 3 Purchase cables to run from the TV to the computer. The video cables you need will have the same name as the type of connection on your TV. (For example, if you have S-video, look for an S-video cable.) Note that you will need a stereo-mini-to-RCA cable for the audio as well. All cables are available at most electronics stores. If you shop online, try MonoPrice.com to save some money. (See the link in Resources.)
  4. Step 4 Connect the cables. No matter what type you have, one end will go in the TV and the other into your computer's port (the video cable in the video card and the audio cable in the audio card). It will be fairly obvious what goes where due to the shape and coloring of the ports. Once both cables are hooked up, make sure the picture and audio on the TV both work. If not, check your connections.

No right channel on AV2

First, does TV sound without external sources work on both channels?

With the one RCA connected and getting sound, unplug it and plug into other channel. Any sound? If not, remove it and plug the other RCA by itself into the left channel. Sound? If yes, plug it into the right channel. No sound? If not, bad TV input.

If you do get sound on that other channel with a single RCA, then you have either a bad cable or bad source. Reverse RCA's on source and try same test, plugging each RCA into each input on TV one at a time.

If the TV is bad, you will get sound on just the left channel regardless of which RCA you use.

NEC PX-50XM4A 50" plasma tv - I get a picture but no sound. I have my cable box plugged in to the DVI port converted to HDMI going to my cable box but I cant get sound when I plug external speakers in to...

HDMI carries both video and audio.
Do you get video and audio on TV. Just to be sure.
Now are the external speakers powered ?
are you connecting the Speakers to Audio Out of the TV ?
By the way, I cannot see any RCA port that is output port on your NEC plasma. NEC 50XM4 User Manual Specifications The audio input is for audio from dvd for example.

I can get picture with hdmi connected but no sound. Do i have to connect the optical digital audio cable from PC to TV to get sound? Actually the video and sound go to stereo receiver first, video passes...

If your video card supports audio over hdmi in that case you need to find the s/pdif port on you motherboard and the port on your video card (usually right next to and sli or xfire bridge) then you can send the sound thru the hdmi. if not you will have to connect your optical audio cable or a 3.5mm audio out to rca left and right out to your receiver for audio. what video card and mother board are you using? if you know this i can tell you exactly where the ports are for the spdif cable to video card and mobo.

My tv got no sound..but if connect a video/dvd via rca ok.

Sounds like you have a tuner or an antenna problem. If you are using a DVT converter box to watch off the air TV, the signal has to be very good to get sound and picture. Try connecting a VCR or a DVD player trough the coax cable and see if it you get sound an pic on Channel 3 or 4. If you do, it is an antenna problem.

Connect my laptop to tv with a sound

Your computer may have come with cables to do just that. If not, you have options:

For video, I would check your TV inputs to see if it has a VGA port, since that would be the easiest. You can also get VGA to RCA or S-Video converters online as well if your TV does not have a VGA port. Almost all TV's these days have RCA inputs.

For audio, you can get a headphone jack (3.5mm) to RCA converter.

If you can't find the converters at your local electronics store, just google VGA to RCA and headphone to RCA.

Once you have the necessary cables connected to your TV, your computer will recognize that it has been connected to an external video source. I'm not sure, but I think it is either key combination Fn+F6 or F7 to perform a monitor switch. You can also right-click on the desktop and select properties (or personalize in vista). Then switch to the settings tab (or Display settings in vista) and click on the alternate display.

How to connect IBM T61 to my Samsung LCD TV 40'' 3xHDMI

If you have an s-video port you will need to buy s-video cables and a separate audio cable for sound. With HDMI you will only need 1 cable for both video and sound. Just connect your s-video cable to your s-video output ( your laptops quick reference manual should show you where your s-video jack is at ) and the other end to the back of your LCD tv video input ( consult your lcd tv manual )

Connecting tv to surround sound

Look at the back side of the TV .
There will be [more than one] composite video in & out
How composite video port looks like typical 3 RCA jacks - std color of ports are Red, White & Yellow. The yellow one is the one - which carries video signal. You can connect - a RCA cable from output of SC-HT730 [yellow] to back of TV.

Most probably there will be at least one Component video behond your TV set [ if the set is HD Ready one] - in other words, If your TV supports component in.
Component Video ports are namsed as Y Pb Pr - if you have so, connect output from SC-HT370 to back of TV.

Recommendation: choose component video - if that is supported in both. That gives much better picture quality.

Brand new TV and it has a beautiful picture but no sound any suggestions?

S-video does NOT carry audio.

You'll have to get some RCA audio cable and connect them to the audio in ports associated with the S-Video input.
