Question about Sony BDP-S300 Blu-Ray Disc Player

1 Answer

Recommended blue ray players??

I'm not the most savy with the ''state of the art'' home entertainment. I wanted to purchase my first blue ray player but now I'm getting a little apprehensive reading about all the necessary firmware updates. Any suggestions on a reasonable blue ray that won't need constant updating, and if so, an easy way to do this? I just want to play standard and/or occasional blue rays and cds. Thanks for any help and suggestions. Paul

The firmware upgrade issue for blu-ray players is one that is causing alot of consumers and enthusiasts alot of headaches. But upgrading firmware is not going to go away.

Therefore, I would have to advise that for ease of use, choose one that has an option to connect to the network directly, such as Sony's BDP-S350. A network connected device will find the firmware upgrades itself so you don't have to find it and burn it and load it, etc.

How to connect a blue ray player with the sc pt760 sound system with dvd?

According to the models you provided it looks like the DVD player has only HDMI out and the sound system you have does not directly support that. I would suggest purchasing a HDMI audio extractor so that you can covert the digital signal from your blu-ray to an analog signal. However, there are other ways of doing this. If you provide me with your TV that you use I might be able to advise another work around.

Go on google and look for "hdmi audio converter" or "hdmi audio Extractor".

Make sure to look at review to determine the quality of the product and decide what device fits your budget.

Can i connect dmp-bd871 to a home theater system

It will depend on your home theater system and TV. If your system accepts HDMI in from other devices and HDMI out to the TV, connect an HDMI cable from the blue-ray player to an HDMI input on home theater system. Then connect another HDMI cable between the home theater system and the TV. This will provide the best video and audio experience.

Another option is connect the HDMI cable from the Blue-ray player to the TV. Connect the audio output of the TV to the home theater system. (This will depend on the TV as well as the home theater system. Some TVs have digital audio outputs; others have analog outputs. If your home theater system doesn't have the same input as the TV's output, you would need a converter as well as the digital and analog audio cables. This is an example of one for digital to analog: http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=4907 .)

If you do not want to get the best picture from the Blue-ray player and your home theater system has analog audio inputs, you can connect the composite video out to the TV. Then connect the audio outputs from the player to your home theater system. (This means only an SD picture will be provided to your TV.)

Panasonic has the manual for the DMP-BD871 here: service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMPBD871-MUL.PDF .

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the other devices in your entertainment system or their inputs/outputs. Then I can add specific information for your system and any tips for setting up the system.

I have a memorex MVBD2510 and it will not recognize all blue ray dvds. Some error codes say t conttact the manufacturer and others just say unknown disk

I also have a 2510. This model has been discontinued. There is a firmware update. You need to go to:
http://www.memorex.com/en-us/Discontinued-Products/Home-Entertainment/Blu-Ray-and-DVD-Players/Blu-ray-Disc-Player-HD-1080p/support/
And download the firmware instructions and the firmware download. You will need to burn a CD-R.
The instructions can be confusing.

Get a Wireless Access Point ($30-$50 average). A wire from WAP to the Blu-Ray player should work like a charm. The WAP pretty much takes your wireless connection and transforms it back to a wired Ethernet connection for devices like this. You can have your Wireless Router on one side of your house and the WAP on the other, right next to your blu-ray player with a short Ethernet connection between the two. The player will just see it as a standard Ethernet connection.
