The Hero has a rather crippled Bluetooth which is one of the reasons I'm sending mine back.

For security, when you set the phone to be discoverable it only stays that way for 90 seconds. This cannot be altered unless someone works out how to bypass it with an app but I understand from HTC that this feature is built in at the firmware level.

Look down at the devices list in the Bluetooth menu and you'll see what's paired with the phone; press menu and you'll have the option to connect.

Bluetooth on this phone cannot be used for file transfers of any kind. It's only there to enable connection of devices like headsets and external keyboards and that's about it. You can't even take a photo and Bluetooth it to another phone. There is no way around this at present.

Not connected with your question, but have you discovered the annoyingly expensive and non-alterable trick which it does when you want to send/forward long SMS messages yet?

The trick I refer to is where the phone automatically converts long SMS messages into a single MMS. I can't remember whether it does it when the SMS character count exceeds one or two standard SMS lengths.

The official T-Mobile explanation (my Hero was T-Mobile's G2) is that it's a built-in phone feature to save users money as one MMS costs less than two SMS. Not much use to all those like me who have unlimited SMS included in the monthly contract: at 20p per MMS with the number of long SMS I send monthly that would have cost me around £300 per month! A lack of foresight or a sneaky way to squeeze more profit from customers? Unlimited SMS are often included these days as (in the UK at least) SMS costs the operator almost nothing to send so it's been used as a very low cost way of attracting new customers. But now that every UK network offers it there's not much leeway for operators to profit from SMS.

I've contacted HTC and the "benefit" is built in at a very basic operating level due to operator and customer demand and they've confirmed that there is no way to override this at present. In most world markets users pay for every single SMS so perhaps it makes sense, but for users like me it was a complete deal-killer once I discovered it.

I've since learned that a few other of the newest phones from other manufacturers have this nasty trick but do not yet know which models and whether they have the option to override the feature.

Just brought a HTC wildfire and I cant find bluetooth to turn it on .

Bell;
Important:
  • For you to listen to music with your headset or car kit, the headset or car kit must support the A2DP Bluetooth profile.
  • Before you connect your headset, you need to make it discoverable so HTC Wildfire S can find it. You can find out how to do this by referring to your headset manual.
  1. From the Home screen, press howtoimage.aspx?id=106492, and then tap Settings > Wireless & networks.
  2. Tap Bluetooth settings.
  3. If the Bluetooth check box is not selected, select it to turn Bluetooth on.
  4. Make sure that the headset is discoverable.
  5. Tap Scan for devices. HTC Wildfire S will start to scan for Bluetooth devices within range.
  6. When you see the name of your headset displayed in the Bluetooth devices section, tap the name. HTC Wildfire S then automatically tries to pair with the headset.
  7. If automatic pairing fails, enter the passcode supplied with your headset.
The pairing and connection status is displayed below the hands-free headset or car kit name in the Bluetooth devices section. When the Bluetooth headset or car kit is connected to HTC Wildfire S, the Bluetooth connected icon howtoimage.aspx?id=106796 is displayed in the status bar. Depending on the type of headset or car kit you have connected, you can then start using the headset or car kit to listen to music and/or make and receive phone calls.

I have my bluetooth on and have tried to receive files via bluetooth from other phones and from pc and i can pair with other device but not receive files. It says paired but not connected. Is there something...

Sometimes this happens because either you or the other person changes the pairing keys or remove your mobile from his paired list.
It can be solved by unpairing and then pairing again wwith the other device.
Go to settings in your wildfire, Wireless and network, bluetooth. Long press on the device name and select unpair. Also remove your wildfire from the other device's paired list. Then scan for bluetooth devices and pair again. This should solve this problem.
Also, when some device sends you a file via Bluetooth, there is a notification asking permission to receive file. Make sure you click on it and select accept.

How to on or off bluetooth on w508i. even how to change setting of bluetooth

Hi, To set up Bluetooth on your phone

1. Go to Menu, select Connect or Connections or Connectivity:

Note! If the above steps do not work, please consult the user manual.

2. Bluetooth - Select On to enable Bluetooth.

3. My telephone's visibility - Select Shown to all if you want your device to be found by other Bluetooth devices. If you

select Hidden, your device cannot be found by other devices.

4. My Bluetooth name - Define a name for your device. After you have activated your Bluetooth service and changed

My phone's visibility to Shown to all, your phone and this name can be seen by other Bluetooth device users.

Sending data via Bluetooth

If your phone supports the Bluetooth 1.1 specification or earlier, you can only have one Bluetooth connection running

on your phone at any one time.

1. Select or open the file you wish to send. For example, to send a photo to another device, open the Gallery

application.

2. Select the file you wish to send, then select Options > Send > via Bluetooth.

3. The phone starts to search for devices within range.

Devices using Bluetooth technology that are within range will appear on the display. You should see a device icon,

the device's name, the device type, or a short name. (A paired device is one where a Bluetooth connection already

exists between your phone and the other device.)

• To interrupt the search, press Stop. The device list freezes and you can start to form a connection to one of the

devices already found.

If you have searched for devices earlier, a list of the devices that were found previously is shown first. To start a new

search, select More devices. If you switch off the phone, the list of devices is cleared and the device search needs to

be started again before sending data.

4. Scroll to the device you want to connect with and press Select. The item you are sending is copied to Outbox and

the note Connecting is shown.

5. Pairing (if this is not required by the other device, proceed to step 6.)

• If the other device requires pairing before data can be transmitted, a tone sounds and you are asked to enter a

passcode. • Create your own passcode (1-16 characters long, numeric) and agree with the owner of the other device

to use the same code. This passcode is used only once and you do not have to memorise it. • After pairing, the

device is saved to the Paired devices view.

6. When the connection has been successfully established, the note Sending data is shown. Data received via

Bluetooth can be found in the Inbox folder in Messaging. Tip: Pairing is a means of authentication. The users of the

devices using Bluetooth technology should agree together what the passcode is, and use the same passcode for

both devices in order to pair them. Devices that do not have a user interface have a preset passcode.

Checking the status of the Bluetooth connection

• When the Bluetooth icon is shown in standby mode, Bluetooth is active.

• When the Bluetooth icon is blinking, your phone is trying to connect to the other device. • When the Bluetooth icon is

shown continuously, the Bluetooth connection is active.

Receiving data via Bluetooth

When you receive data via Bluetooth, a message alert tone is played and you are asked if you want to accept the

message. If you accept, the item is placed in the Inbox folder in Messaging.

Disconnecting Bluetooth

A Bluetooth connection is disconnected automatically after sending or receiving data.

Hope it helps .

HTC Hero pairs with my Infiniti G37, rings through the navigation system, but then audio is through the phone

Without the manual for the car I doubt anyone could help. It should explain what is not right. If the phone pairs then it's probably not the phone. Just as an experiment have you tried pairing with a bluetooth headset? If that works alright then my guess is the dealership should be able to help.

Bluetooth in my G1 doesn't work-it can see other phones around but is unable to connect to them,it can only pair with them.Besides that I can't send or receive pic messages. What should I do?

Nothing. That's exactly how it's designed, both the G1 and G2 (a.k.a. HTC Hero) have a very crippled form of Bluetooth which cannot be used for file transfers of any kind.

It will pair up for Bluetooth headsets, but even then the chipset will not allow Bluetooth voice dialling.

As this is purely a hardware limitation there are no apps, firmware updates or updated OS releases which can fix it.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I hope that you've found my posting to be of some use. All I ask in return is that you take a moment to rate my answer.

How do i send pics on htc hero

You can only do so via MMS or email.

There is no infra-red transfer and the phone has a very crippled form of Bluetooth due to the chipset fitted which means that the Hero is physically incapable of sending pictures or any other files via Bluetooth. There are no apps, firmware or forthcoming Android updates which can fix this as it is purely a hardware limitation. Bluetooth on the Hero can only be used to pair up with car kits and earpieces, but even then it's totally incapable of Bluetooth voice dialling due to the same near-useless chipset.

The Hero is a superb device, but you've hit on one of the few really annoying flaws in the design of what could have been a real iPhone alternative.

I'm sorry that this isn't what you hoped for, but I hope that you still found my reply to be of some assistance. All I ask in return is that you take a moment to rate my answer.

It sounds like your device may be paired with a Bluetooth headset. Try turning off bluetooth connectivity and see if that fixes the issue.
