I would like to hook up my components without having to turn on the receiver to watch tv from DVR or Cable if possible.
I have Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 HD Cable DVR w/HDMI out, Samsung TV w/HDMI , Yamaha Receiver RX-V465* w/HDMI, Sony DVD Recorder/Player (no HDMI on this) . Am I losing picture quality by not having HDMI cables to DVD?
Please note I have the Yamaha RX-V465 not the 463. The 465 was not a valid entry in the product box.

You should not lose any picture quality from the DVD player. I am currently having the similar setup with PS3 as the Blu-ray DVD player with HDMI and a Samsung DVD as regular player with component cable to a Samsung LCD TV. Remember the quality on Blu-ray is better than normal DVD so don't expect more than what it is.
