Question about Brother ML-100 Typewriter

1 Answer

Ribbon problem Brand new ML-100 and when typing, the ribbon doesn't automatically advance. It appears that the gear underneath is turning and the wheel on the ribbon is moving but the ribbon itself usually stays in the same place. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

My Brother ML 100 typewriter does not print because the film ribbon does not advance while typing. It keeps striking the same spot on the ribbon and therefore, no typing appears on the paper. If I remove...

I've had several of these ribbon cartridges do this. You might get lucky and get it freed up, but I rarely did. Look in the windows of the cartridge and see if the ribbon is not wound evenly...if it isn't you can try gently tapping the cartridge on a flat surface to attempt to even out the ribbon on the spool. If you are not successful, then replace the cartridge. I had mine for almost 10 years and the cartridge was always the problem. Otherwise the typewriter worked flawlessly. Good luck.

I just replaced the typewriter ribbon my Brother ML-100 typewriter; however, it does not advance properly so typing does not appear on paper. What is the problem?

Take the ribbon off, see if it advances with the hand feed wheel if not you have a bad ribbon. Type without the ribbon and be sure the ribbon driver is turning. There may be a switch or setting for use of an overstrike ribbon,

The ribbon will not index forward on my 345 DLE. It appears that the shaft that inserts into the cassett does not turn to move the ribbon.

if the knob on the ribbon cartridge doesn't move the ribbon when you turn the knob the direction of the arrow (on the cartridge next to the knob) you need a new ribbon

Replaced ribbon but now the ribbon doesn't advance. Could it be ribbon itself is defective or could I have replaced it wrong? Ribbon is wrong replacement?

Try removing the ribbon, advancing it a foot or so by hand. Install it, mark the feed wheel type and see if it is turning.

Just installed new ribbon cartridge and still cannot get anything typed. worked fine three days ago.

If it worked befor you installed the ribbon then check the installation or if the ribbon is very old it may be bad. Try typing on a multipart form and see if the carbons print.

The ribbon doesn't advance at all? Try turning the ribbon by hand. If it is really hard to turn, or doesn't advance when you turn the knob (make sure you turn it in the direction of the arrow), then the ribbon is defective and you just need to get a good one.
If the ribbon turns easily, the leave the ribbon off, type and watch to see if the black knob on the left of the ribbon plate (the place where you put the ribbon), that turns the ribbon, is moving.
Also I have found that some brands of ribbons simply do not work on this machine. If the ribbon and the ribbon drive is working, try a different brand of ribbon.

Either a jammed ribbon or feed gears. Try another ribbon or get it serviced.

Ribbon is sticking

You may have a wrong ribbon, sometime the small parts where the ribbon turn gear goes into does not match up correctly. Can you turn the ribbon manually by hand, if the ribbon does not turn it will not type....
