Laptop will power on, display flickers. The laptop has power. When off, the lightning bolt on the front of the laptop will not stay on.

Thanks Will....not...The display flickers and acts like the vertical hold is lost. What can I do about this...should I scrap the laptop or attempt to fix it? Past history- power cord went bad, so battery took a hit. Now I am questioning whether or not it is charging correctly- and if this is related to the display issue

Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX shows a blank screen on boot, but runs perfect on external display

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

Hi please help me, my compaq presario 1700 flickers then i dont see anything the screen turns into black, but the sound is ok and its not hibernating, and overheating, but sometimes it comes back to normal...

This is most likely an hardware related issue in which case you need to get it checked. To narrow the issue, you can try hooking up your laptop to an external monitor if possible and see if it does the same. If not, then there's probably an issue with the displays internal connectors. You can also try powering your laptop with only the power cable attached and without the battery, then reset all power management settings. If the problem goes away then it's probably a power management issue.

The sreen is blinking

you screen may have issue, check the refresh rate in the option:
Desktop/right click/display properties/Setting tab/Advance/Monitor/Chose tickmark "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display"
Now use a lower refresh rate of 60 hrtz)
Power down and restart the laptop.
If the flickering does not go, you may have to visit a computer mart store to check if the backlite / screen inverter board behind the LCD screen is out

My compaq presario 1200xl310's monitor remains black. I just purchased a new ac adapter for it. It had been unused for about a month. When I inserted the new adapter and powered it up---no screenlight-up....

You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replace the CCFL lamp.
To determine if the video card or the LCD is faulty, connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight. It could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out, this is the most likely case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
