Question about Kingston (DTIU3/2GB) 2 GB USB Hard Drive

1 Answer

USB My usb drive[Western Digital external USB 2.0 250GB drive] keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. When reconnects the pop up box for action to be performed( AutoPlay) in Xp professional keeps coming up. I tried with different machines. The problem occurs in some PCs and works fine in some PCs. Nothing common to relate:( Is it some thing to do with BIOS setting?? I even tried installing XP SP3. Still bugs me. Anything to do with registry setting or with USB power setting?? Plz help me in this case.

IT appears that the HD is dead
Take it to an IT repair shop and have it checked out
If that is the case , replace it with a sshd unit as there is no moving parts like you have now to wear out
it powers up faster as well

Driver download

The drive is built in to Most operating systems. If the drive is not recognized, check your USB ports using a flash drive. If they work, reconnect the HDD and look in device manager for error messages.

Mybook WD25001032-001 keeps on flashing and won't work...what is wrong with it. I need help. Thanks

Hello,

Try plugging the usb cable on a different port on the computer. If the light flashing is red, then there is a hardware problem on your WD. If this is still under warranty, then its best to have it checked from where you bought it or to any authorized WD service center. If its no longer under warranty, then you can open the WD and check for any disconnection. The inside contains a harddisk; you may want to disconnect the two connectors from the harddisk and reconnect them again.

Western Digital external USB 2.0 Problem

Buy an External USB 2.0 Hub with the 5.0V power supply. I have a TARGUS 4 Port Hub. MY WD2500XMSB works fine thru the HUB, but will not work using any cable (even the one that came with it) when directly connected to the USB port on my computer. The power consumption of passports sometimes exceeds the .5 milliwat rating for the ports and ccause the port power to interrupt (see USB 2.0 specifications). The external hubs with external power have a higher power output usually an can power the passport drives. CW Rumsey

After I disconnect it from my pc for the first time, when i reconnect it it does not show up in MY COMPUTER. 1tb wd My bookessential edition

Western Digital Enclosures are known to have this issue due to the electronics inside. The Hard drive is most likely fine but the electronics that drive the enclosure are not that great.

If it is newly purchased you could return it on warranty or by a new enclosure but buy a good quality one.

What is the model of your computer? Are you connecting the Flash Device in the front or back? Are there any special softwares running in the background?

Drive stopped working

I had the same problem - green light on power cord but when plugged in the green light would go off and the hard drive would do nothing. I took it into Geek Squad finally and it turned out that the problem was hard drive casing, which I had to have replaced.

The round lights on the front of the drive are actually power off/on button. Have you tried pressing it? I know it's simple, but you never know. :)
