Here is the procedure to reset the parental lock code:
1. Bring up a screen where the unit asks you to enter in the parental code. You can either insert a restricted disc, or enter the DVD setup menu and go to "parental control" under custom setup.
2. When the screen asks for the code, press the SELECT button, then enter in the code "7444".
3. The level adjustment under Parental Control dictates the strictness of the player. The lower the value, the more strict it will be. Either increase the value to lower the restriction, or disable the lock entirely by setting it to "off".
4. Once you have made your adjustments, be sure that the DVD tray is empty, and press the RESET button on the front of the Playstation 2. It is imperative the tray is clear of any DVD or game for the unit to save your settings.
The Ps2's parental control is always on, but it depends what level it is set at. Here is a good tip....put a normal dvd in it and you should see a thing pop up and say that it needs to change your parental controls. then type in the password ex:0000 or whatever you put in or you can just do all 0's
Step 1 Turn on your PS2 and choose the menu screen where you would normally enter the password. Instead of entering a password, go to the DVD setup menu. Go to "custom setup" and choose "parental controls". Step 2 When you are asked for the code or password, press the select button on your controller and enter the number "7444". Now set the parental lock to "off". Step 3 Press "reset" on the front of the game console to save your settings. When the system reboots, you should be able to view your previously censored games or DVDs. You will also have the opportunity to choose your own password, allowing you to turn the parental lock on and off, either manually or automatically by game or movie ratings. I often recommend that the parents of older children should regularly reset the password in order to prevent "hacking". Also, try to choose a password that could not be guessed easily. Often, a combination of both letters and numbers works best, as the laws of statistics dictate that more choices equal more failed attempts at cracking the code. Unless your child is exceptionally persistent or lucky, boredom will win out before they guess the correct code.
Start the PS2 up and load the DVD. When it shows the Parental screen select YES. When the Password box pops up. Press the Select button on the controller. Type in 7444. Then your password is reset. It will ask you to enter another password. Do that twice. Allow the movie to start. When it gets going pause the movie, Press the Select button on your controller again. The DVD menu pops up. highlight SETUP. When that setup screen appears go to the 3rd icon from the left. Press X. Then highlight Parental Code. Set the parental lockout level to OFF.
Put a DVD into the PS2 and let it try to load. When the screen says chenge to level four select yes. When the entry window pops up,press the select button on the controller. It should say reset password or something like that. Put in 7444. Then when you rename the password put in 0000. You will have to do it again 0000.
Once the movie starts, not the menu screen, but the movie actually playing, Press Select button again. The PS2 DVD menu should appear. Cursor over to the toolbox or Setup, and press X. Cursor over to the third icon, and press X. Arrow down to PArental and press X. Change the Parental lockout to OFF.
I am not completely sure about the procedure here but the numbers are correct.
You Insert a DSVD and get it start then press the select button to get the menu up. Go to settngs and Custom setup, Get into parental and use Code 7444. You will have to enter it twice. Then set your parental setting to OFF so you do not have to warry about it again.
