LCD screen is all black whether picture taking or viewing??

This just occurred. The camera is about 2 years old. The website days it will be $107 to fix. I;m concerned about spending that kind of money for a 2 year camera. Are there any simple fixes or recommendations how to move forward?

Mine has done the same thing. It's about 2 1/2 years old. I knew I should have stuck to Olympus. It's not worth $107 to fix. Thanks for the info

I have regularly used this camera for Ebaying and suddenly I have a black LCD screen. I have tried different disks, hoping that it was on the screen but the pictures only come up black. My camera is also around 2 yrs old and has been a very nice camera up till this time.

I have the same problem with the black screen. The camera is about a year and a half old. I have tried everything to get it to work. Any advice would be helpful. I have no funds to buy another. Cannon really needs to look into this problem.

I have a 4-5 year-old Canon Sureshot 3.2 MP (PC1037?)digital camera that has been extremely reliable. I use it for fishing trips primarily now. The viewing screen is now black and I am unable to take new...

Its possible the unit thinks that the lens is still on. Try to reset the unit. Also try to remove the battery for about 10 mins then put it back on. If that does not fix it I suggest toss the unit already.

There is no view on the screen and it is blank ie black. What could be the problem? The camera is still very new.

Check whether the camera takes pictures. Try shooting a picture and download to PC. If that is fine, then your lcd is bad. You need to replace lcd. Buy a used one sold for parts from Ebay and remove the lcd from the old one and replace in your camera. Only tool you need is a jewellers screw driver set for $1 from Dollar store.

New batteries are not lasting longer than a day

Battery life can fluctuate greatly from day to day. It all depends on the type of photography you are doing. For example, on one day, you spent the day taking pictures outside in the sunlight, with no flash, and didn't use your camera's screen to review any of the pictures. The next day, you spent the day inside, taking lots of pictures using the flash, zooming in and out on people's faces and reviewing the pictures using the camera's screen.
Features like the flash, zoom, LCD screen and image stabilization (IS) use a great deal more battery life than if you were to not use any of those features. This could explain why it suddenly seems like the batteries aren't lasting more than a day.
However, if your photography habits have not changed enough to potentially affect battery life, there could be an issue with either the image stabilization hardware or the standby mode of the camera. If the image stabilization (a fully mechanical feature) is malfunctioning, it could be activating when it shouldn't be, such as when the camera is on but you aren't about to take a picture.
I would try testing the camera by taking pictures using different camera settings.
  1. Turn off the flash and image stabilization, use the viewfinder instead of the LCD live view mode, do not zoom in or out. Take as many pictures as you can before the batteries die.
  2. Keep the flash and image stabilization on, use the LCD live view mode, use the zoom frequently. Take as many pictures as possible before the batteries die.
With test #1, you should see much better battery life than with test #2. If you still experience decreased battery life either way, there may be a hardware issue with the camera. Should this be the case, contact Canon Support to find out whether or not your manufacturer's warranty covers this problem.

My sony dsc-w1 got very wet, caught in a rainstorm and did not have the case. I have left it dry out for 4 days and it turns on, lcd works, can read memory stick and display old pictures on the lcd. But...

Maybe the shutter got wet and sticky. You can try look into the lens then press shutter button to take picture. If you don’t see the movement inside the hole, the shutter doesn’t open, it will take black picture.

My Kodak V530 is able to turn on,but all black in LCD

Mine was doing about the same thing. Take the battery out. Take the 4 screws off where you can get to the screen from the inside. Get the back off where you can get to the screen connection. Press on the connection to make sure they are seated well and put it back together. It worked for me.

Canon A75 No startup sound & display on LCD, rest of things works fine

Think it might be your batteries. 700mah batteries are pretty weak by today's standards (most are at least 2,500 mah these days). I'm guessing your batteries are several years old? If so, they're really only meant to have a usable shelf life of a few years, whether they are used or not. Recommend trying a new set of rechargeable batteries.
