Question about Compaq Presario 700 470024-192 Notebook

Boot problems with compaq f700

This is to further detail my boot problems with the f700. I have already reformated the machine, ran check disk and defraged (we're using vista) and it still has the problem. It will repeat the same problem on the boot up sequence regardless if you're trying to go into bios-safe mode-or regular boot up which is: the computer lights up and the screen goes blank. After 20 seconds or so you can see the power lite cut off and immediately back on and it repeats the same process. If I hold the power button down and do a hard stop on about the 3rd time the computer will successfully boot.

Hello there
Hints:
1) You got a driver or device problem,
2) use the drivers that cam with your f700 particulary these ones, 1) video card 2) sound card (sometimes if driver is bad, it can cause these problems)
3) RAM problems, to isolate the problem, if you have the expertise take ount one ram module at a time and turn on the computer. see if these helps!

SOURCE: My compaq presario f700 has difficulty booting up.

Windows Start-up Errors
Step one, you need a Windows XP CD. If you only have a recovery disk set like the ones from HP or Compaq they will not do what you need done. Under normal circumstances however, you can use a Dell disk because the Operating system is on a stand-alone disk. All retail versions are also acceptable as well as upgrade disks. For a rule of thumb, if the disk has the Microsoft hologram it should work. You can order a boot up floppy disk from here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994 with this file, if you know how, you can use “ImageBurn” to burn the file into an ISO file which can be burned to a disk. Now make sure your computer boots to the cd rom first. If you know how to do this skip on down, if you don’t, while the computer is first starting up and you see the manufacturers splash screen, tap F12 (some computers it’s F9, others it may be another key, you may have to watch and see if the computer lists the key strokes for getting to the boot menu. If you still cannot find it, boot into the BIOS settings and change your boot order there. Save your settings and exit, the computer will now seek the cd rom as its boot source first.
Place your Windows disk in the computer and start it up. When you see the test at the top of the page “Press Any Key To Boot From CD” Just hit the space bar to activate. The next screen you will see will most likely be a Windows setup screen, when you see this press the “R” key to get to the recovery console. It will get there, it may take a little time, patience. Once it loads you will be given a choice of Windows installations, there should only be one, if there are more, always pick number one. It may ask for an administrators password, if you have not set this particular password, then just leave it blank and press enter. The next prompt you see is:
C:\Windows>
You need to type the following:
cd \
hit enter. Pay close attention to the spacing between the characters. There is a space between the character “d” and the “\”
You are now at the ROOT of the drive, this is where basic commands can be given and changed. You should now see the following:
C:\>
Now type the following:
CHKDSK /R
Hit the enter key.
The chkdsk /r command also includes the P command and will also look for lost recoverable information in bad sectors.
There are occasions depending on how corrupt the system is, that this process could take several hours, so be patient with it.
Now, after chkdsk has run type the following:
FIXBOOT
Hit the enter key.
It may prompt you with a warning, that’s ok, just continue. When fixboot has finished, type: EXIT hit enter and windows will reboot. When the system reboots, tap the F8 key during this time and you will see the multi-boot menu come up. Scroll to the title “Last Know Good Configuration” and hit the enter key. If you were having some simple drive errors this should have fixed them.

There are a few reasons/causes of this.
The most common cause is the modem going faulty. Remove the modem and it may come back to life as it can't finish POST.
The Bios has an error, remove the Cmos battery and let the board discharge for 1/4 hour, re fit it and it may POST.
The uProcessor may need re seating and have a bad contact on a pin. Re seat the uProcessor and clean off old heatsink compound installing new.

Maybe as they are the most common I have come across, you may fall into one of them, I hope, otherwise it is a dead motherboard I'm sorry to suggest. Even if the RAM is faulty, it should attempt to POST.

My compaq is power on for 2 second and off , how to fix is thank you

You need to print this out-on someone else's computer. Hope it works for you!
Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Compaq Presario F700 laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the Compaq Presario F700 . This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your Compaq Presario F700 laptop on.

Boot in "safe mode". As it starts up press F8, the computer ask you if you'd like to start in safe mode. Highlight "safe mode" and press enter. See if your laptop is booting up ok .

If your Compaq Presario F700 boots ok, do the following,

Try System Restore first,
Start Menu->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore. Choose the most recent date before you the encountered problem. If it doesn't work, try the next date.

If System Restore does not fix it, as a last resort, you might need to fdisk, reformat your laptop hard disk clean and reinstall OS, that usually fixes all bugs. Before going that route, try following,

Uninstall unnecessary programs and applications.

Scan with a antivirus program

Scan with a spyware/malware program

DEFRAG C:

CHKDSK C:

Clean up and repair registry problems with registry repair software of your choice

If the problem persists, did you check if it could be your Compaq Presario F700 laptop power cord or power source problem? Defective or insufficient power supply might cause error messages that are misleading. Take the battery out and power on your laptop with the charger only. Make sure your Compaq Presario F700 power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. Did you notice the power jack loose? You can find laptop power jack on ebay. Fixing and soldering the power jack requires professional skill though. The charger green/blue LED should be on. If not, replace the defective charger. Compaq Presario F700 laptop battery charger, especially its power cord/cable, lifespan is limited and does not last forever, consider buying a lifetime warranty charger online from company like www.topmic.com

Switch on one second go off

Thanks for using fixya, looks like you have a motherboard problem try this:

1- disconnect all the power and take out the bat. , after that press the power for 10sec.
2- put only the charger (without the bat.) and try to boot
if this dont work, try :

1- take one buy one the ram memory out and try to boot.
if boot with one ram out is because that ran is faulty , if none of the cases work, your motherboard needs to be repaired or replaced.
Thanks

Pls help to me.my compaq F700 laptop cant on.when i press on switch hearing one beep sound only.not bootable. How i solve the problem.

Hearing exactly ONE beep is "good" -- it signifies that the hardware is working correctly.

So, either the disk-drive itself is the problem,
or the installed copy of Windows has been corrupted, such that Windows cannot start/complete the boot-process.

Compaq f700 laptop will not boot. Power lights come on but no boot. Get msg. "No OS found." Am able to boot system from Ubuntu CDROM and then access hard drive data using a usb enclosure for the SATA HD...

This is not a problem with the hard drive but rather with your OS installation. Please do a repair installation of the OS using the original US disks.

Good Luck!

reformated twice? have you already ran diagnostics on the hdd? check first the hdd thru diagnostics it might the hdd causing the problem. if no errors found in hdd make sure it was reformated as clean install. your hdd might have partition and just reinstalled OS on he same partition without deleting partitions. Try deleting partitions then create new partitions then reinstall OS.

Compaq f700

You have a hard drive probelem. This sounds like an intermitten actuator arm on teh disk spindle. What this means is that at boot up time the boot rom gives istructions to the operating system as to where to find the operation system. Apparently the actuator arm on the spindle that reads the hard drive is failing.
