Question about HP Pavilion dv2500t Notebook

1 Answer

My Vista HPdv2500 doesn't have the option for a second monitor when I go into display settings in the control panel. This laptop is only 2 years old I can't believe it doesn't have a multi monitor function. When i press fn f4 the screen goes blank for a moment then returns to normal. I've tried this with an hdmi cable and an rgb cable. I recently reinstalled the hp vista with a dell vista because i'd lost my reinstall cd, could that have effected it? PLEASE HELP ME

You will most likely need to download official Vista drivers from http://welcome.hp.com/country/ca/en/support.html to enable any extended features of your machine. Hope this helps.

Why doesn't my laptop display when I hook the VGA cable to the projector

If the vga connection does not display the image it means the secondary display is not enabled into your computer ..Go to the image settings in control panel ..(the driver settings for the video card..)..open them and look for the option for enabling the second monitor ..It will start a wizard and you have to choose the mode and settings fro it ..(by mode I mean choose how you want to be displayed as clone ...or extended...first will clone the monitor and the second one will extend the monitor and you can even run different applications )
Also be sure you have the video driver installed cause if it works with the windows generic driver will not have all features for it ..and will not work )
for most laptops..the enabling of secondary monitor is possible when you press Fn+ the F key indicated with the monitor sign ..(it can be F4 or F5 or F7 ) ..

I am attempting to connect my HP pavilion dv9000 to a HP 2310e monitor, but it doesn't recognize the monitor via the HDMI cable

You must make sure it's configured correctly: make sure the monitor is up and running (not in Sleep) , that the HDMI cable is firmly plugged in (use a new one to be sure), then right click on the desktop, click NVidia Control Panel, under Select a Task expand Display and click Run multiple display wizard . If the monitor isn't picked up then go to Set up multiple displays options and see if the monitor appears in the second setting (Select the displays...) - if it doesn't then click the MY Monitor is not shown in the list option and follow the procedure to force its detection.
If even that fails then the video driver is corrupted, you will have to uninstall it, download the latest one and reinstall it.

Dual Monitors. #1 works fine. Plug inb #2 and #1 goes to sceeen saver and #2 stays blank.

Both monitors must be plugged in when the computer is started for the second monitor to be detected, and you must configure the second monitor once the computer has started
In windows XP: control panel -> display -> settings tab -> select second display -> check "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" -> click apply
In windows vista/7: control panel -> adjust screen resolution -> select second display and then under "multiple displays" select "Extend desktop to this display"

Monitor comes on for 2 seconds and then goes all black. What type of problem do I have?

May be you have set "Changed" the setting of your monitor power. If it's set then try this step and see whether it's helpful to you or not. In Windows 7, Vista, or XP, to change the power management settings. To change power management settings in Windows 7, Vista, or XP: Note: If this doesn't match what you see, refer to About navigation settings in Windows.
For Windows 7 and Vista From the Start menu, select Control Panel. Then choose Power Options.
From the list in the left panel, click Choose when to turn off the display or Change when the computer sleeps.
Set your options. For each action, "Turn off the display:" and "Put the computer to sleep:", you can select times ranging from 1 minute to Never.
Click Save changes.
Windows XP From the Start menu, select Settings, and then Control Panel. Double-click Power Management or Power Options. From the "Turn off monitor:" drop-down menu, select a time from After 1 min to Never. Click Apply, and then click OK.

All the Best!

How do i stop the monitor going to standby or sleep while watchin movies every so often?

Vista: "Control Panel"-->"Power Options". On the left hand side you will see various options, you want the one labeled "Choose when to turn off the display". You will have 2 settings you can change, 1.Turn off the display and 2. Put the computer to sleep. For both of those options, change them to "Never".

XP: "Control Panel"-->"Power Options". There will be a setting for "Turn Off Monitor", change it to never.

Pc Laptop display dim

Does sound like a power issue. Assuming it's windows xp, you can check to see if it is a poiwer management setting:
Go to start, settings, control panel, display, and on the 'screen saver' tab at the bottom should be the "monitor power" area, click "power".
There is a power schemes area there. Check out what your settings are. Laptops often have settings for when plugged in versus when unplugged; when troubleshooting this make sure you are positive about if you are 'plugged in' or not as it will affect settings! :)
(On Vista go to Control Panel, Power Options; same thing, change your settings there)
