Danny_gormle, Hi there. Your lcd display "switch-mode-power-supply" is mostlikely detecting a FAULT with itself or the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" ballast circuit (called the INVERTER) and is going into what is known as SHUTDOWN mode to try and save itself from having a catastrophic nonrecoverable failure and or FIRE and SMOKE. Get back to me after you visit YOUTUBE and search for video clips of LCD monitor Disassembly and or LCD repair! I'm sure you will find out the most common causes of your type of failure symptom. Your symptom will surely fit into the top 2 at least. After doing the YOUTUBE thing, check with Acer to see if they have a cash+old monitor swapout programme where they send you a REFURBISHED unit in return. It's that or have it refurbished locally or do repair yourself. With the words 'straight away' I suspect your from England, Canada, or The Land Down Under? I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @ aol.com north of Chicago. Hope this helps you out a bit. please rate this response on fixya. Bye for now.

After a while LCD monitors develop problems that are usually caused by faults in the internal circuitry. This could be an issue with the power capacitors failing. If you feel confident enough, you can remove the back cover and check to see if any capacitors are bulging or leaking. (Give it at least 24 hours unplugged to allow the capacitors to discharge before doing so). I found THAT little bit of knowledge out the hard way

Monitor flickers and goes blank after 5 seconds and keep repeating this very often.

Hello,

If you turn the monitor off then about 1020 sec turn it back on and have a picture for five sec again it sound like the power supply in the monitor. but if that did not solve the problem, the picture board on your monitor is bad, since it goes off after few seconds and the power led or button is on, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault and will need to be replace.

I advice you replace the picture board on the screen of your monitor to solve the problem of the blank screen.

Take care.

Hi, my BenQ FP72G 17 inch LCD Monitor keeps auto-adjusting every 5 seconds and every now and then it will turn itself off and later go on again. Any help ?

Make sure the cables are in well with a good amount of slack, it can cause a problem if your power cable or computer to monitor cable is loose

Stupid padlock/main menu keeps opening and closing DELLe152fp

That is the OSD (On Screen Display) system built-in to your computer monitor. Check that when you hit the ON/OFF button on your monitor, that you do *NOT* hit the 'OSD ON/OFF' button.

Most of the time, the OSD will disappear after 10 seconds of "non-use".

Acer AL1717 moniter hissing and goes black

Include me in the people burnt (no pun intended) by crappy quality Acer monitors. Will never buy their stuff again. Ironically, this infrequently used external monitor burnt out overnight, just a few hours after I had actually checked out and decided to buy an Acer Windows 8 15.6" i5 laptop. Definitely not buying Acer again.

Turns off and on by itself

Ok so its connected to your pc?
check settings on the monitor itself [if you'restill able to do that]
disconnect all your usb devices restart your computer and try again.

Is it in a cold room ? that might be the problem.

Is it in the same powerbar as your computer ?
I'm not sure but if your power outlet where you connect it is simply looped to the rest that are in use [lazy electrician] then it might turn off because a power shortage.

Good luck

Monitor turning itself off

It sounds like the problem is with the computer's video adapter settings. It is very likely that the monitor cannot handle the settings. If you boot into safe mode, can you see everything? If so, then the normal mode settings are too high. Safe mode defaults to the lowest possible settings (thats why everything will look really big) Try turning down the resolution (Right click on the desktop, select properties, go to settings tab) to the lowest possible setting, and then slowly try turn them back up again until you can find the maximum setting the monitor can handle.
