Picture probs with Orion 14"CRT TV

I have an Orion 14"CRT 12/240vTV. 2 problems(may be related)
Prob.1:On start-up,screen will often 'ficker' and/or have black and white diagonal lines across the screen(occasionaly it will start with just a very 'thin' picture) A 'technical tap' will usually fix these problems, but lately the tap has to be firmer, and I'm not happy hitting it too hard!!Occassionaly the set cuts out (stops) completly(no pic/no sound) and then start again, sometimes without a 't/t;.
Prob. 2: When connected to a VCR, we get a very distorted, and reddish picture, sound OK.
Both probs seem to occur on both 12v and 240v.

There is a poor or many poor solder joints in the vertical section of you tv, this is a simple repair for a technician. the set should not be used until this is fixed or this could damage other parts of the television.

Picture on tv keeps going out and coming on

If the previous posts didn't fix youru problem, and I doubt they did, then you most likely have a weak CRT and the video is being muted. you can sometimes tell if that's the problem by turning up the screen voltage slightly to see if the picture comes back on. If it does, then the CRT is weak. This is a very common issue with Sony CRT TVs, and can sometimes be rejuvenated by a good shop for fairly cheap.
