Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

SOURCE: I bought a new canon 50d in july and used it

Sorry about the trouble you're having with the camera. I searched the manual for error code 30, but I found nothing.

You could try Ritz, but I think you'll find they're probably not set up for repairs. Since the camera is less than a year old, I would think it is covered under a Canon warranty. Having a third party attempt repairs would probably violate the terms of the warranty, so you might reconsider that. I suggest arranging for Canon factory service to make the repairs for you instead. You can arrange for that via the link provided below:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ServiceLocatorAct&fcategoryid=226&modelid=17499

Lastly, there is an updated version of the firmware for your camera. Released 7/30/09 it is probably not installed since you purchased your 50D prior to then and due to your admitted "technology challenged" status. This update may help with the error, but there is little info I could find about it. Again, the folks at Canon can help you out best with this.

I hope this helps - and good luck!

SOURCE: Camera eos 50D started giving

Receiving multiple error codes definitely indicates that your camera should be taken in for service. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do on your end in terms of troubleshooting or fixing a range of error codes. The camera needs to be sent in for service. If your camera's still under warranty, you can ship it in to the nearest Canon warehouse and have it repaired for free.

Almost all early Quantaray lenses (and Sigma lenses, Sigma made Quantaray) in the Canon EOS mount will show error messages on Canon digital cameras (but still work fine on older EOS film cameras). usually err99 but err01 also. There is no DIY fix and Sigma ran out of update parts years ago. Current production lenses and Canon made lenses will not have this problem. This lens would only work for someone shooting EOS film cameras with no intention of "upgrading" their system to digital Canon cameras in the future.

I was shooting yesterday with Canon 50D & a lens 18-55 & the camera started to give me error code 20; telling me switch OFF & ON or re-install your battery. i removed the battery & put it...

Error 20 didn't show up on a 50D error code search, however I've run into this before when the processing operation couldn't be completed meaning the memory card was corrupt.

The Canon 50D makes massively large files and several things can run you into problems the first I doubt but need to list and that is you are using a card with a slow write speed. Another is that you have been using that trash can icon and not formatting your memory card. The trash can deletes files yes but it leaves what I cal a residue (small amount of data) do this enough and your card fills with useless data. Still looking at the memory card, you possibly downloaded pictures to the computer and formatted the card in the computer, not a good thing to do. Error 20 is also a windows error code for corrupt files which will play havoc with your camera firmware.

Another possibility is you downloaded picture files to your computer and forgot to do a safe disconnect, eject or safely remove device what ever your camera computer uses for shut the device off before disconnecting.

After downloading your just placed the memory card back into the camera and maybe started shooting again with a "dirty" card. The correct practice is to format your memory card every time you have had it connected to the computer. Format not delete, format the memory card in the camera it is to be used in.

Clean up the card and your problem will go away. Error 20 is a processing problem, corrupt file(s) or a camera firmware problem. If the problem continues do a firmware update to your camera through the canon site it's free

I bought a new canon 50d in july and used it through the summer sporadically in preparation for an overseas trip. Periodically got an error 30 message on the LCD but always ok after turning camera on/off....

After about 5 or 6 shots, it gives me an err99

"Canon has announced v1.03 firmware for the new EOS 50D digital, which they claim fixes a number of problems. The most notable of these is the 'Err99' issue that prevents the camera from taking pictures.

http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/firm-e/eos50d/firmware.html

PLEASE NOTE: Please follow all instructions carefully when upgrading firmware and always use a mains power supply. If the update is not performed according to the instructions provided, the product may not be updated correctly, and may, in some cases, prevent the camera from operating."

Hope this helps. =)
