Fairly simple one this.
If all the cables are connected properly and the video card is sitting in its slot properly then either your video card or monitor has died,

Try a different monitor - if the same porblem exists then you know it is your card, if the problem does not exist on the new monitor then you know it is your monitor.

Although you may be lucky and just find that the card is not sitting in its slot properly, or a cable is loose. The card may even be overheating, if it is a newer card, make sure the fan is working on it.#

If this is helpful please vote kindly.

The screen has multicolored lines running vertical thru the left half of it, obscures everything on that side. seems ok if hooked to an external monitor

It seems that your Eee PC's integrated display has a problem. I have had this problem myself and if you still have a guarantee the manufacturer should replace the display. Otherwise pay for a new display or deal with it:D

Vertical multicolored lines appear. Sometimes there are couple of vertical white stips and vertical lines

Connect an external monitor to your laptop. If the problem appears only on the display of the laptop and not on the external monitor in the same time that means the video card is ok and the problem could be : the screen of the laptop or the invertor or the cable that attaches the screen to the mainboard. Have it checked by a professional.

Right half of screen is Black with a White vertical stripe

Yeah, I have this exact same problem, except my mom slammed my laptop shut in frustration around half an hour ago, so that's why it's like this. The right half of my screen is black with two colorful stripes (mostly white), but the left half is visible. I've researched a bit and found out that this is because the LCD in your monitor has burnt out, and since you don't have a monitor to attach, the only thing you can do is to go to where you bought the laptop and either get it fixed for free or return it for a brand new one (if your warranty still stands). If not, you might as well get a new laptop. I think my warranty has expired, so I'll get a new laptop, hopefully.

Hope this helps!

Compaq Presario laptop

First attach laptop to an external monitor and using the FN/ F keys toggle back and forth to the external display. If the external works OK then the video display adapter is fine and the problem is the TAB welds on the LCD. Time for a new LCD.

Vertical lines on left half of screen

The problem is the driver tabs that go from the panel controller board to the panel itself.

This is normally a fatal failure since having it repaired is extremely expensive.
